Nice! Thank you OP - finally an AMEX deal good on my card!

Equivalent of 6.67%cb ($20/$300 = 6.67%)
Best way to optimize:
- Buy two $300 gift cards in separate transactions.
- Use them on any normal purchases where your best cashback credit card doesn't have a great bonus. As an example, if you use it on a transaction where you would only get 1% cash back, using the gift card gets you an extra 5.67%cb. If you use it on an Amazon purchase where your amazon card gets you 5%, that's only an extra 1.67%cb.
How to add all AMEX deals to your card:
Use Chrome, on a computer (not mobile)
Go to Amex site.
View all offers.
Copy and paste this Javascript function into the URL:
javascript:btns=.filter(b => b.textContent === 'Add to Card');c=()=>{ b = btns.shift(); if (!b) return; b.click(); setTimeout(c, Math.random() * 300) };c();
Wait a minute or two. The function clicks every button that reads 'Add to Card' and it takes a couple minutes to run if you have 100 offers.
The function is secure. Your amex data is not being sent anywhere.
I have had a similar experience with AmEx gift cards where they get locked or there's a hold that prevents you from extracting full value from the card. Very difficult to use anywhere, and the service is terrible. AmEx outsourced their gift cards to some company and just slaps their logo on it, but the service is outrageous for AmEx standards. I would stay away, not worth the hassle.

Just want to share my experience. I purchased the AMEX GC prior to seeing all the bad reviews. Was a bit worried I won't be able to use the AMEX GC at all.
I loaded the AMEX GC to my Apple Pay and so far have positive results to share.
In-n-Out; $40+ —> OK
Safeway; $100 Disney GC —> OK

Yes, I 100% agree with both of you. Last year when I bought these, I also couldn't use it anywhere. I ended up contacting Amex, and they just cancelled out the cards and sent me a check. But it was not just one simple phone call. It involved multiple calls and just finally getting lucky and hitting the right customer rep who offered to do that.
DON'T BUY AMEX GIFT CARDS!!!!
I had similar experience. I purchased a gift card directly from American Express and it was denied everywhere I tried. After a long call to Amex support, they proposed to refund me by check which I supposed to receive in up to 30 days
Also, Staples sells Visa gift cards with no fees once a month.
interesting as someone told me they dont earn rewards/cashback if you buy Amex gift card with Amex CC, did you or anyone here get reward points/cashback after buying with Amex CC?
That is usually the test to know if it counts towards SUB
Does anyone know if this counts toward AMEX sign up bonus spending requirements?
Please share your experiences
I wouldn't count on it. The terms specifically exclude gift card purchases from counting towards sign up bonus spending. Normally buying prepaid gift cards at your local grocery store, Walmart etc would work because Amex doesn't have a way of knowing what you purchased. However, in this case, you are buying Amex Gift cards directly FROM Amex. Pretty easy for them to tell. I've had Amex claw back 100k membership rewards (for a different reason), after I used most of them, and let me tell you, it SUCKS! I wouldn't risk it.
This is from the gold card terms..
Eligible purchases do NOT include: fees or interest charges; purchases of travelers checks; purchases or reloading of prepaid cards; purchases of gift cards; person-to-person payments; or purchases of other cash equivalents.
Tried to use at Amazon for $300. Declined. $299 Declined. $150 Declined. There are 2 charges for $0.10/ea that apparently will be released in a week or so.
So the issue is NOT necessarily the hold itself exceeding the card value - if that were the case then the $150 would have gone through.
Called Amex. Was told that they do not store address info (if that matters) and that Amazon was the one declining the purchases (not sure how that works). Agent told me to try somewhere else. Sorry but that's BS. These cards should be good wherever Amex is accepted.
Tried using at my insurance (as stated previously) but the expiration on the card is in 2035 and their website won't let me enter anything beyond 2034.
Curious as to how people are getting refund checks for these - do you just call the number, feign fraud, and get a check?
I am having the same experience. Have tried to use it MULTIPLE places, and either can't because the expiration date is too far, or it gets declined. Total BS

the reason why it does not work at some places is due to the card not being linked to your info.
Most places want personal info of some kind linked to this particular card (usually linked to cc, both prepaid and regular) to ensure the transaction is not fraudulent. These AmEx prepaid cards do not allow the linking of that info. (Most visa/mc and store bought AmEx prepaid cards do not have this requirement).
For some reason, these particular AmEx cards have the requirement (could be a 3rd party processor issue)
