We may have had 20%-25% cumulative inflation since 2020, but it's different for every consumer. Some may have had 10%, some may have had 50%. If everyone more or less gets "inflationary" wage increases of 20%-25% over that time period, clearly the person experiencing 50% cumulative inflation has still had a significant decline in real purchasing power, whereas the person at 10% inflation is significantly better off.
Not only is this the first time we've had significant inflation since the 1980s, what's more impactful is that the range has been so wide for various consumers. And asset price inflation has benefitted those who are probably least impacted by inflation
