I don't think this is the case anymore, to be totally honest. I was working at Best Buy when the first Beats came around (with the Dr. Dre affiliation) and they were hot, hot garbage. They broke all the time, and I wasn't impressed with the sound quality.

These are a worthy competitor though. If you're looking for absolute top-end quality, obviously these aren't it because they're $150. Some people here are comparing them to XM5s from Sony... Dear lord I hope if you double the price the XM5s would crush these. I haven't seen those at a comparable price to these though, so I think the comparison is kind of empty.

I'm impressed by the quality of these. I initially discarded them specifically because of the Beats branding, but after reading some reviews and trying them - I'm quite pleased. If your budget is $150... I don't think you'll find anything better. If your budget is higher, of course there are better options.

I had these and returned them. They creaked a lot, a lot of wind noise when I was walking outside, and also pretty uncomfortable for my ears since they didn't go all the way over. The sound was decent, but comfort was more of a priority for me. Try them on before you buy.

How do these compare to the XM5s?
The Beats are better for me simply because you can listen via BT while charging (no need for an additional 3.5mm jack). Replaced my XM4 with this and Sony hasn't clued in with the XM5, I suspect for some arbitrary design reason. XM5 has better noise cancellation and audio fidelity, whereas the Beats have blind spots in its ANC but is 35% cheaper and has transparency mode and physical buttons vs the XM5 which comes down to personal preference.

Are these any good? Worth buying?
Get the Sony XM5's over these. I bought these and returned them. The noise canceling on the XM5's is WAY better, they are more comfortable, and actually work better for my iPhone and iPad, since they can connect to both at the same time.
These won't even audio share.

No, these latest line of beats headphones use a proprietary beats chip and not the H1/W1 Apple chip the previous line had. It's still one button pairing, but does not do auto switching between Apple devices.

Thanks. I have the XM4s and the Bose QC ultra and love them. I'll stay clear of these

Still mad that I didn't get the xm4 last time.
I was lucky to place an order for 3 of them, I honestly thought that was almost the normal price, and surprisingly they delivered them the same day. That was 1 heck of a steal.. hopefully for your sake they do it again.

They are Beats. They don't compare to high-quality headphones. You're buying them for the look and logo. /end

With those two, you don't need anything else tbh. I have Bose QC Ultra and am wanting to get XM4s, and I'll be done too. I have Beats Studio also...but for the gym, cuz they're "cheap" and expendable if destroyed by sweat.

Is the XM5 really that good with ANC? To me most of the effect seems to be passive noise blocking. Their ANC is just mediocre.

The older XM3, which I've used extensively felt much better and Bose's Ultras are also a lot better with ANC.

Even more so with the WF earbuds. It's like Sony discovered foam tips exist and decided they would be an acceptable substitute for a good ANC system. It's not a novel idea, people have been using Comply tips on earbuds for decades now. But a lot of reviewers can't even tell the difference so they just rave about it.

This or the Sony ULTs assuming a difference of $20? I've looked at the rtings reviews for each and the numbers lean towards the ULTs.

Personally jumped on this deal last year, only it was ~$180 including AC+. If you don't currently have another pair of good over-ear headphones, like XM4s or any recent Bose headphones, these are worth it at this price. If you already have one of the aforementioned pairs, the Studio Pros aren't an upgrade for you.

Mine are beige and have held up very well. Great noise cancellation on airplanes, comfortable for a couple of hours too, although my ears will hurt after a long session. Transparency is very good too! Everyone talks about the fact that they don't auto-switch to devices, but honestly it's nice to have headphones that don't assume your intentions every time you do something.

Mid range performance and high end price. If you are reading this comment then you are likely aware of this already. And you likely have gathered that the XM4 and XM5 are far superior. Sound quality, comfort, NC, ambient and controls. Ive tried em all. There isnt even a close second in the market.

$150 with included AppleCare+ is a great value for these Studio Pros.

What's the closest price comparison for similar Sony XMs or Bose with extended warranty?

I'm truly interested since I am in the market for headphones to replace my AirPods Pro.
