After using the m4 iPad, you couldn't be more incorrect. I couldn't find a single game that I was disappointed in

How are you playing modern games on iOS? Serious question.

Might finally be time to retire my 2012 Mac Mini, which has been running constantly as the home server for 12 years with upgraded RAM, upgraded SSD and OLPC to run Ventura it's been a good run, though. Will need to scope out a good 2TB or 4TB external drive

Not that this a huge deal for everyone, but they placed the power button on the bottom of this one. Just something to be aware of…
Mobile processors are so efficient that you don't need to power down the system. You will get the best experience without powering it down anyway. When was the last time you turned off your iPhone when you went to sleep? I see why Apple made the decision to place the power button in the bottom. Apple Magic Mouse is another story lol

Do you know how much is the power draw while inactive ? If you ran raspberry pi 4 or higher for stuff may be this as an always on device is better as it can double down as a desktop so you are probably not wasting by too much power

That's not going to fly if they want to take gaming seriously.
Gaming seriously on a Mac mini?

guys .. you don't understand... 256gb of Mac storage is equal to 512gb of everyone else's storage. apple is very generous to even give ppl 256gb..... tbh .. 99.999% of ppl only need 128gb
Is this a true statement? I'm trying Apple for the first time and don't want to buy the 512GB version unless I feel it's necessary. I don't game but will load MS Office and Davinci Resolve. I know with Windows the OS keeps growing taking up disk space and 256GB fills up rather quickly.

have to check over at macrumors, but I wonder if there's any data if the 256gb has the "half chips" issue so slower speeds than 512, or whether it's all equalized out now... anyone hear anything?

Even video editors would be fine with the base model. Pro is if you need to do multiple 8k projects or some really complex compute tasks. I'm still using the M1 Pro MacBook Pro and it's a beast.
I've got both sizes of M1 MBP (between work and home), been feeling like a sloth with some chrome tabs open. kernel_task takes up all the CPU.

$230.

I have a 2020 M1 mini 16 GB and 1 TB storage (wife insisted). If it wasn't for that large HD I invested in I'd be all over that trade in deal.

That said I love my mini.

Lol I'm getting 2

$499 x = $1000
But because it's free 8GB extra, that's like another $180 x 2 = $360 for free so the value is really $1360 at $1000 cost.

I'm trading a M2 Mini and 1st Mac Studio for 2 M4 Mini base for basically free with the trade-in values of $720 + $260 = $980.

So I'm basically replacing my gear for free (minus the taxes I have to pay)

Apple EDU + Trade-in = awesome!

Don't think the base M4 is an improvement over my Mac Mini M2 Pro. Also 256 GB on base - $700 for the 512 gig option.

M3 single core beats your M2 pro… M4 is significantly better. But will you notice the difference? I wouldn't, but it depends on your use case.

Finally.... 16gb RAM for base price. I just ordered the base. I don't need more at least not paying Apple's tax. I brought a crucial 4tb pcie ssd for $230 from Bestbuy. I just need a thunderbolt 4 enclosure and I saved myself a ludicrous $740 for only a 2TB upgrade from Apple.

For 90% of people out there. The base model w/16gb RAM is enough and just get an external SSD.

I will happily give you the $260 trade in value for your Studio
