V was good, but not as epic feeling as 1. I didn't play it much. Story wise it was focused on different battles than typically portrayed in ww2 games.
3 was great, I'm not sure what the current player count is these days though. 4 was the refined version of 3 (though I think 3 was a better game). People still play 4.
2042 is...OK. It has a lot of BF feel and a lot of non-BF feeling in it. I played it a while then stopped because it got boring. But it's still going decently strong as far as I can tell.
I never played hardline. It should have been an expansion for 4 instead of its own game. It was abandoned faster than any other BF game.
