Conventional wisdom is awesome. But this boils down to our inner wisdom & spirituality, the topic of most spiritual guides. There are books such as these to help for laymen. But if one wants to look deep, study theology and philosophy, topics slowly fading in the name of materialism.
Start with cleanliness. That's right, clean and organize your living space. Be moderate, don't need to purge or perform any deep rooted ritual. It starts there annd casually all else will trickle naturally into habit. Use that cleaning time to think over (meditate) your life and how it can also be clean. Then keep things you actually use, opt for simplicity. Most of the time, to keep the house clean, hard decisions must be made to rid of things not useful anymore and set it aside archives or thrown away, so long as it doesn't interfere with daily life. It's that easy.. not so easy in some respects.
