When I'm not 98% sure of the weather, leather doesn't handle rain (which we get a lot of even in June) and snow well versus modern fabric weaves in the better Klim/MSR/etc clothing. I do a mixture of on/off-road, and still ride in the snow/wet (a normal occurrence up here in the Pacific Northwest, Minnesota, Canada, Scandinavia, etc).
