The previous answer is wrong, Panda Express doesn't use pints or quarts. There are 3 sizes they use:
1. Small = 8 ounces
2. Medium = 16 ounces
3. Large = 26 ounces

For a family meal, you get 3 large entrees, and 2 large sides. That's 78oz of entree, with and 52oz sides.
For a bigger plate, you get 3 small entrees, and 1 medium side. That's 24oz of entree, with 16oz sides.

So a family meal is about 3.25 times as much as a bigger plate. For a $30 family meal, the bigger plate would need to be less than $9.23 each to be a better deal.
The bigger plate is three pints and two pints.
The family deal is three quarts and two quarts.
$30 used to be the normal price and $20-25 was the sale price. Good times.

This! I came home, opened the packages, and thought why is there only half of the food in boxes? Maybe it fell out into the bag. Nope! Bag was dry and nothing outside. They kept doing that to me until I realized it's bc they only fill half so I stopped eating there lol
Or you could check the containers before you leave. You shouldn't have to do that, but we are talking about minimum wage earners and folks that can be in a hurry and not pay attention to what they are doing. As a rule, I check things that weren't packed in front of me, including the bag of food from the drive thru just to make sure they gave me what I ordered and paid for.

So not really a deal.2 pints = 1 quartThe Family Deal then = 6 pints and 4 pintsThat equals 2 Bigger Plates. How much is one Bigger Plate in your area? If not >$15, then this isn't a deal for $30 UNLESS they don't over pack those Bigger Plate sections and do overpack the quarts for this Family deal.

Depending on where you live, nowadays minimum wage earners make about $16-22 an hour.
So they're paid pretty good.

Pay doesn't necessarily guarantee good workers

In this age , some people are angry at just having to work

I remember doing the $20-25 during Covid. Wasn't that long ago.

We'll never see that pricing again

This might be true, however, it really depends on how well PE fills up the containers. The PE near me does a horrible job of this for a while now.

I have ordered both the family meal in the past and the 2 bigger plates in the past, with similar entree/sides, and weighed them when I got home. They were roughly the same weight.

However, I wouldn't recommend PE to anyone because it's garbage quality food.

I see they still do not have General Tso's, so why bother?

The only time I went, whatever it was I ordered, it did not leave a good impression.
