The Retroid Pocket 3 was a bit too underpowered to play GameCube. The Retroid Pocket 3 + (the + is very significant!!) has a T618 computer chip that plays MOST GameCube (and everything older) games well except for the most demanding examples like F-Zero and Star Wars Rogue Squadron. The Anbernic RG505 used this same chip.

The Retroid 4, 4Pro, Mini, and 5 can play all GameCube, and the Mini and 5 can play a bit of the next generation as well. Anbernic also has the RG556 which is also GameCube and PS2 ready, plus people praise the ergonomic grips.

From my understanding this is one cheapest handhelds that can reliably play gamecube games, the other being retroid pocket 3.

If I ever get thru all the NES / SNES generation games I'll start worrying about the higher power stuff. I paid like 1/3 of this for my RG35XX Plus so yah, it'll do more but do I need it? Smilie

The larger screen is nice though.

At $100-120, I'd be willing to pull the trigger.

It has usb-c video out and Bluetooth controller support so it can be used as a standard game console. It's definitely overpriced to play 8 and 16 bit games but that's a nice feature. Anbernic has not included video out on most systems and usb-c video out almost never.

Then you'd be better off with the Powkiddy X28. It has a horizontal form factor and grips so it's more comfortable. The chip is a T618 so it's a bit weaker but as someone mentioned above, it can still do a good portion of GameCube/PS2.

The screen is 16:9 so it works better if you want to use it for moonlight or on other game streaming services. It should be around $100 on AliEx and $80 after coupons.

Check out this spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadshe...edit#gid=0

from a quick glance the rg 406v has slightly better display and a different aspect ratio.

☝️ what this person said. Not sure why these gameboy knockoffs are popular especially when quality might be hit or miss. Genuinely curious as to why a phone with a controller wouldn't suffice. No seriously. Tell me why because I'm ready to buy one of these when I know I have a perfectly good phone I can use.

I bet you $10,000 that no Chinese bootleg handheld can play "the next generation" after gamecube - that would be Xbox 360 and PS3. Modern gaming PCs can't reliably emulate those yet.

When you're looking at these things, take everything you see with a massive grain of salt. Actual UX is never going to match the YouTubers who make a living shilling these things.
Technically, the Wii is a Gen 7 console, which is emulated quite easily [dolphin-emu.org].
As for Chinese bootleg handhelds emulating the Wii, the Retroid Pocket 4 can handle it [youtu.be].

Because when you want to play the game and look up a guide it's handy to have your phone free. It's part of the appeal for me also it's always connected and you can just pick up and play.
