Hmm, interesting. Almost tempting. I still don't know what to think about these $700+ 50mm lenses... Besides the fact that they are ridiculously expensive.
It does suck, but it's a lot of FOMO pricing also. The smart buy is if you like converters for E mount or RF Mount (I use both) and just use older lenses. Like for my E and RF mounts I have specific converters that let me use a Sigma 50 1.4 Art, and after the announcement of the mega pricey 50 1.4 VC from canon it looks like I'm keeping the art for a while. Fortunately there's a lot of great alternatives coming from companies like Meike, Viltrox, Sirui and more that are very capable 50mm's for sub $450 prices.
Used though has been wonderful. I've been getting RF lenses refurbished straight from canon for 50% the price of retail such as the 28-70 F2 for only $1699 last year.

Yep. That's a good lens. There was a $320 deal on that lens two months ago. I hesitated, and I missed it. (The 135 1.8 was $430ish also.) The reason I didn't buy it that:
(1) it is not as sharp as the Sigma / Sony 50mm f/1.4 lenses,
(2) the AF needs working on. It's not bad, but not Sigma level, let alone Sony level, and
(3) I own over fifty 50mm lenses. They are mostly Manual Focus vintage lenses (plus two 50mm f0.95 Chinese MF lenses and a couple 50mm f.18 AF lenses.) I can autofocus 95% of them using the Fotodiox Pronto AF adapter.
So yeah, if I need a slowly autofocusing 50mm f1.4 or f1.2 that's not optically perfect, I have tons of those. I think if I buy a modern 50mm f.14 or f1.2 lens, it should be near perfect.
I expect the Samyang 50mm f1.4 Mark III to be out in a year or two with improved AF and optical performance. Maybe that'll be the one to buy?
Alas Sigma lenses don't really go on massive sales ever. Nor do Sonys. Samyangs do.

You snagged that deal? Very nice! It was available for like a day, then it sold out. Wonderful lens, great price. I'll get one when the Mark II comes out (should be within the year if rumors are correct), and the price dips even further.

Not really worried about tax since I visit 0 sales tax state often.
Looking to own before end of the year. I have no rush.
Want to see what my chances are if I pass this $975.
