Most of the electric caulk guns are like this if you're trying to do precise caulking. You have much more finite pressure control with a manual gun.
These are good for larger volume work like construction adhesives or roofing sealants where you could burn through tubes quickly and it isn't precise.
Agreed. I had a small construction project, and it was worth it for that. It allowed me to lay down a more consistent and professional bead over long stretches. It was easier when I was working while on a ladder too. It's a good price for what it is, and even if you aren't in the Craftsman cordless ecosystem, there are adapters on Amazon to use other batteries with it.
Does this work with any batteries for other brand tools like DeWalt?
No. Even though the batteries are mostly the same, they have tabs that prevent them physically fitting, also I think the pins could potentially have some ID passing through it. An adapter should work though.

I don't have any Craftsman cordless tools since that brand has gone downhill.
I'm not really sure how far back you are going by saying it's "gone downhill" but after Stanley Black + Decker bought them, they have basically positioned craftsman as their more DIY / Home user brand. Similar to what Ryobi is to Milwaukee for TTI. The newer tools are quite good but probably not "pro" or industrial quality. Maybe that's what you are looking for but as a weekend diy and hobbyist type, they work fine for me and the batteries and tools are often on sale.
All of that being said, this looks cool but I really don't caulk enough to need it. And when I do, I really don't mind the cheapo manual one I do have.

Actually, even for those jobs, it's horrible. Flow control is bad, ie, takes a long time to stop, then keeps dripping. I have a Ryobi 18v caulk gun that is fantastic. Fine control or mass volume, and anything in-between.
