Do these Roku devices have ads?
Can you be more specific? Like... are you asking if the ROKU itself has ads? Other than a small side or bottom placement 'ad' promoting a channel, a show, etc. that is non-intrusive and silent there are no real ads running unabated on the device itself. Ads will depend entirely on the channel/app you're using, if that's what you're asking about. Ad-free Hulu vs. Ad-filled, for example. You need to pay for the ad-free version if that's what you're after. Same with Disney+, etc. these days. The content provider of the 'channel' is pushing ads, or not. The Roku isn't presenting them, on its own.

What was the cheap item
You can potentially get this for around $32 if you add this: https://www.qvc.com/secure-grip-i...80703.html to get the price over $60 and use the coupon HOLIDAY30 to get $30 off.

They kinda do have ads. Ads to buy/rent moves from their own store.
It is very easy to stick that Apple TV+ app in a folder and not see a single ad or "recommendation" on the Apple TV. It is worth the extra cost to me to be ad free and have a great interface and remote. The Roku and Google TV are just non stop with the ads.

Great deal! I bought this model and an Apple TV last year to test out. I have never owned a Roku or AppleTV because I used my xbox for streaming netlfix and max. Roku has live tv and I can get live national news and live local news. Roku has the best app selection for streaming apps, including Netflix, Max, Paramount, Peacock, Prime Video, Vudu, and Movies Everywhere. I have never had an issue so far with logging into the apps.

AppleTV was $125 last year and that was the only reason I bought for the first time. It STILL does NOT allow me to log into Netflix but I can get into all of the other apps. Do not buy Apple TV if you have Netflix.

Luckily for my first Roku product, I lucked out and I love this product. I highly recommend this product especially at this price!

These have as many ads as the streaming service you watch with them. So if you have ad-supported Netflix/Paramount/Hulu, you'll see those ads: this doesn't magically get rid of them.

ROKU also made a lot of people mad recently by forcing you into binding arbitration or they would disable your device (that you paid for) until you agreed. They already collect a ton of data about you, and now they've changed their terms to where you can't even use the damn box unless you agree to NEVER sue them or be part of any legal action against them.
This is incorrect, or at least disingenuous. The apps themselves handle their ads or no-ads sure, but some media operating systems have ads of their own in the menus and interfaces before you enter an app. I'm sure that's what the original question was referring to.

And to answer that question: I have a Roku OS tv that I use for my kids tv and I hate the thing. I can't imagine PAYING to use this interface and be shoveled ads that you can't control. It's constantly serving ads for mature content and scary shit on the side of the screen that freaks out my kids for the two seconds it takes to turn on the tv and select the app with their shows. Some people don't care that there's ads on the side but I don't like them shoving shitty horror movie ads on my screen.

Apple TV+ (the stream box) does not have ads and is a far superior product even at double the cost.

Re ads on the interface, I'd posted this last month, which might help someone not yet familiar with Roku

Roku added front page ads in one of their updates to the OS. Terrible company.

…………..
I'm surprised there aren't more discussions about this if you are new to Roku you probably wouldn't know what you are getting into. If ads and data collection don't bother you, it's great.

A couple years back and prior, the Roku home screen was ad free with only the menu list. Pressing right to access your apps would show a static ad. Pressing the home button to exit an app would take you to the top left app to select another. With an ad on the right. Pressing again took you home.

Since then, they added an ad to the home screen also, which seems to come and go. Now both the ads can be animated or can be annoying video. They changed the home button so every time you press it, it takes you to the home screen to make sure you see that ad and then have to press right to see the second one. Every time now.

Now they are constantly adding categories to the main menu, trying to boost subscriptions. At least these can manually be removed, though you have to do this on each Roku. This seems to happen at some interval a few weeks to months.

Search online for 'Roku patent for ads on pause screen' to see what else we Roku owners might be looking forward to from them.

Add- Another recent thing they added is an auto app sort that I've had to revert back twice, on each device. Don't know if they're trying to be helpful or trying to get money out of apps being first shown near the top.

I probably don't see as many in the UI because I use the shortcut buttons and run a DNS sink on my router. But if you're allowing them to serve you custom ads, you can change the preferences to limit the types that show so your kids don't have to see the gruesome stuff:

I got a spin wheel when I clicked thru OP's link below and gave me $30 off $60 offer if I entered my email address with free shipping. Unsure if there was More than $30 off thru their spin wheel option.
Also what is the main difference between 2022 & 2024 model which is sold on Roku website?
