Anyone know if this requires some monthly subscription? I looked on Amazon site but it doesn't seem to clearly describe a subscription.

It is not required, no. You can view live video and get notifications about motion detection and door opening/closing without a subscription, but that's about it. I installed one a few months ago and have never had a subscription outside of the free trial.

Motion detection is worthless though without a subscription, because you can't see whether it's a false positive via recorded video, and you'll almost NEVER catch the action live after getting the alert. Better to install a myQ system inside the garage, and add a cheapo keypad outside that also links into the remote control.

The camera part is fairly useless without the subscription but I like it because I can easily assign individual codes to users and set them up remotely. It holds something like 99 unique users.
