What's HMB?
Host Memory Buffer
ie. It uses your Windows DDR RAM to work better when transferring (Writing) a lot of large files in a short amount of time and not slow down in speed. It requires the drive to be installed internally in a M.2 slot. If you use an external drive adapter HBM is not enabled.

host memory buffer - instead of having it's own DRAM on the ssd, it uses the host (computer) as it's memory source. They're slower than SSDs with their own DRAM, but it allows them to be cheaper.

seems like they are cutting corners to make it cheaper, then market it as the new technology to make SSD's faster.

It claims to have 5000MB read and write, so yes. Just buy a heatsink to pair it with.

I'm not sure I'd say that. HMB is a technology that provides considerable benefits to DRAM-less SSDs. Though, one could argue that this makes manufacturers less motivated to make drives with DRAM.

It is not 'cutting corners', it is 'optimizing manufacturing process', 'providing more choices' and 'competing on price vs quality'. Customers then makes a choice based on their needs.
