This is a new Whirlpool model, but seems to be the same feature set/specs as WDT970SAKZ and similar higher end Whirlpool configs. Those are typically in the $700-$800 range.

The new unit claims to be quieter (41 vs 47 db). Not many credible reviews currently, but the models that match feature wise have been among whirlpool's highest rated models.

My old dishwasher died. I'd settled on the WDT970SAKZ, but this popped up cheaper, supposedly quieter and a newer model so I'm jumping on it.

Looks like Home Depot charges and extra $270 for delivery/install/haul away. If the 6dbs isn't critical you can get the original model you noted for $700 from Costco but that includes install/delivery/haul away and doubles the warranty to 2 years.

If you don't need the extra services, this is a good deal.

For the curious, at least in my market area, installation is $179, the required parts kit is $27, the required (per HD) 110v cord is $13, and haul away of the old appliance is $50.

That brings it up to $888 all in for things most would want if they aren't doing it themselves.

WDT970SAKZ is at Costco for $699 all-in, including all the above items, a $189 saving. Plus a two year warranty rather than one.

This HD deal is best for self-installers. For those who want the whole thing handled, Costco is substantially less. Yes, $65 membership if not already, sure, but it's still a far better deal.

Costco also has the 90 day return option for appliances if you are unhappy with it for any reason. Home Depot is 2d only for defects or damage. It would be pretty hard to put it through its paces within 2 days of purchase.

I had actually ordered the one from Costco but cancelled after seeing this cheaper, supposedly quieter and newer. I wasn't worried about installing it myself and this was pretty easy. That said the Costco complete package is appealing, and it's annoying to have to pay for delivery from home Depot when you have no other choice but to have it delivered with their current approach to appliances.

how long is a dishwasher expected to last? 300/10 is 30.00 a year. I would take this in a heartbeat unless there is a reason. serious inquiry as this is my first home with a dishwasher and it's from when the apartment was built so I'm assuming it's like 20+ years old.

I can't answer the longevity question because any factual answer would require a large dataset. With modern appliances and their questionable build quality, it's hard to say.

That said, I can tell you that going from a noisy Hotpoint, or similar, to a higher end GE at 41 dB is a serious upgrade. Instead of having to avoid watching TV or making phone calls when the dishwasher is running, you will barely notice that the dishwasher is on. I installed one that was basically silent to replace a slightly noisier model (probably about 44 dB), and I kept checking to make sure that it was running for the first few weeks.

If you're worried about reliability, buy an extended warranty or at least buy it with AMEX or similar credit card that doubles the warranty to two years. Once you reach that point, the chances of it breaking are much lower since the manufacturing defects should have already failed by then.

For those who qualify, this dishwasher is the basically the same price through AAFES, with free shipping and no tax. You do not have to purchase installation or haul away.

be careful because the depth of this is 2 1/2 inches longer than a standard dishwasher, I just ordered one and may have to cancel it most dishwashers have a 24-inch depth this has a 26.75 so it may not be ideal for a condo or a town home

Where are you seeing that? The Home Depot page shows it as 24.5", which is fairly standard given the door handle slightly protudes a bit. I'm pretty sure that depth is including the handle, so you should be good

That depth is for the ones with the towel bar handle, and includes the handle itself in the depth measurement. The washer body itself is slightly below 24". I installed this unit this weekend so speaking from direct experience.
