I also had no idea there is two different models with two different lumen outputs. I have a type 1 purchased in 2018 and a recently purchased (from Woot) that has type 12 stamped on it. I compared the two of them and the type 12 is brighter than the type 1. Is it significant? No. I was using my type 1 for years and only decided to get another one for my workshop because its the best mobile light I've ever used.
FWIW, I've used the type 1 for everything from auto repair, carpentry and electronics and never said to myself I needed more light. In fact there are times where I've used the lower setting for the sake of battery life and that was more than adequate. The head array broadcasts light in a wide area, it's not focused so perhaps this is why it seems brighter than the lumen output. I use a 5Ah battery and this thing runs forever, even at the highest setting. Excellent deal for this light, I paid $46 a few months ago. Added some pics for type 1 used on a drywall repair after a conduit/RG59 run.

FYI, this is the type 1 version with half the lumens of the current version with same model number

It says that cuz theyre selling the type 2. Dewalt should have changed the model # or put version 2 somewhere in their product info.. Pretty bad faith to change it up significantly and keep the same model # imo.

good light, also keep in mind that the top wire is a hook. pull it up and you can now hang it on tons of things.

I purchased a $15 spot light than brighter than this one. I can see how they can justify this price.

I have this but use my $20 harbor freight flexible magnet light way more. This one is just so clunky and large for the same amount of brightness

I am not sure why these are so expensive when you can get something 1/4 the price with low voltage protection too.

So, "type 12" is actually the type 2 (1000 lumens)?

I was doing some looking on eBay and there appears to be a "type 1", "type 12", and "type 2". Any ideas on the differences between all three? I personally own the "type 12".

still a great deal for the price, regardless of the version. Type 2 likely won't be on sale like these are.

Finally they put low voltage protection on it. I had to jump my batteries after leaving it on the first version of this thing.

I couldn't find any info on the specs of type 12, the only thing I can tell you it's slightly brighter than the type 1 I have. The type 12 I have was purchased from Woot in September.

Just received mine and it's Type 12, 300-1000 lumens. Also it's made in 2024 so definitely not old stock. Link for the pictures below

I also just received mine and it's Type 12 and shows 1000 lumens on the box. I put it next to my Type 2 and the brightness looks identical to my eyes.

Same as the previous two commenters, just received mine and it's the 1000 lumen version. Tested it out and it's plenty bright. Lights up the whole room well

I also got that deal in Sept and can confirm it does say "Type 12" on it.
