At this point, the quality issues on LPs are legendary. I have a 2010 Studio where the fingerboard isn't flush on the neck on the low side. I should send it in to get it fixed but then it would lose its tone magic (not!).

I just bought a PRS that was on a slickdeal a few weeks ago. Immediately was obvious that it is what an LP should be quality-wise.

Most of the legendary 'burst era' Les Paul's averaged under 9lbs. Likewise with today's non-chambered historic re-issues (few outliers, but as a rule they are not the boat anchors that came along later). We can thank the Norlin era for making 10+ pound Les Paul's a norm and sadly that continues today outside of Custom Shop reissues.

To be fair there was a revamp in leadership in 2018 or 2019 and quality is legit now.

I have a 2 year old Epi LP Modern, the headstock literally fell off while cleaning. That's not a joke, no damage to the guitar at all, clearly a major defect, Gibson refused to even look at the guitar, they immediately rejected it without even seeing photos of the damage. I will never buy another Gibson product again, and just google LP headstock issues as it's a known issue from even slight bumps in case.
PRS all day, when I did have an issue with a Core, they immediately helped and fixed it all free of charge. I will say, initial quality of the Epi was great, better than most, but you know, falling in half is kind of a deal breaker...

It's a well known issue for all Gibsons with the Open Book headstocks. I actually prefer to buy used Gibsons that had already a broken neck repaired. That usually knocks off like half the price of the guitar. Once a neck has been repaired is never an issue again... it's weird. For those concerned about the weight, the modern and/or Lite series are 8 to 6 lbs. I do own Fenders and PRS guitars, they have their own lane when it comes to sound...but as far as fit and finish PRS wins. Every PRS guitar that I have bought was set up perfectly or very close to perfect. Every single Fender and Gibson I always had to do a set up no matter what the price point.
