Think both speakers have their place. I'd say these would do exceptionally well if you have a smaller room or as computer speakers. I use mine nearfield (og ls50) and it's a better experience than higher end headphones tbh. For a living room setup I'd prob step up to those concerto or r3, if you're trying to stick with kef. The ls50 just don't perform as well when pushed to their limit. The build quality of the ls50 are excellent, and honestly can't go wrong either way. One will just get louder and deeper but you won't be lacking clarity whichever you decide.

(better off spending the extra 300 and getting the new Q Concerto metas which probably is why these dropped in price. Especially if you don't have/want a sub. https://youtu.be/O-7b6sqDOus?si=lEFTlvUF9DaV_vhe
I honestly prefer the look of the LS50, and I'm going to use a subwoofer anyway.

I have LS50WII at my desk, amazing speakers! Am frustrated they removed the USB port. I suppose they assume most will get Metas.

Are these worth $1000, or are there just stereophile snobs out there? Can one appreciate and hear the difference?

Bought these last time on sale a year ago, not impressed at all, not as good as my cheap floor standings.

These made of solid gold? lol what a price. No way are the materials used to make these worth anything close to that price.
yes the price of things is based on material costs alone because thankfully R&D, Production, Employees, office space, equipment, shipping, etc., etc. are all FREE!!!!!!

I've heard you need a powerful amp for these to sound real good. Otherwise they sound pretty average.

A high end amplifier is required for these speakers, otherwise you're wasting money.

You need a good amp to make the most of this speaker.

Or spend $500 more and you can get Erin's top pick for $2500 - MoFi Sourcepoint 8:

But if you have a small room or looking for a desktop nearfield setup, this LS50 Meta for $999 is hard to beat.
The mofis are 1000 more than the ls50s and 700 more than the concerto metas which he had tied with the R3s (2nd on the video you sent). Unlikely they are worth the extra 1000/700 aka double the price.
