Most people would argue for the AM5 for upgrading in the future. However, speaking from experience, I am still using a 3rd gen i7, the number of cores age very well. With 16 cores, I plan to use this 5900XT for at least ten years, perhaps fifteen. By the time, perhaps AM6 or AM7 will be out, I don't think an AM5 matters at all.
With AM5 out of the question, I looked at price and performance. It is, yes, difficult for 9700X and 7600X to best 16 cores of performance. 5900XT apparently has a better price/value for being an AM4. So, I decided on this deal.
