How much is it to install one of these ? For a little cement pad + running a gas line + install ?

It's going to depend somewhat on where you live, but what I've picked up from reading other threads about generator deals, as a ballpark idea: Plan on paying roughly the same amount that you paid for the generator for having it installed and wired into your home circuits.

It really depends on your circumstances and location. How far from your meter/electrical panel are you installing? How far from your gas line? Do you even have gas or do you need a propane tank just for the generator? How good/up to date is your electrical panel? Is any rework needed to add the transfer switch? What do your local regulations require? You can possibly install this (or most of it) yourself with fairly little money, but it can get expensive if you have long runs, need to upgrade your panel, live in a high cost or highly regulated area, etc.

Anyone buying this (or any standby) should consider upgrading their service entrance to 2020 NEC, with outside disconnect (if not already installed).

The great thing about that is, no need to call the power company for future work.

It is a bit of a PITA as the existing main indoor panel has to be converted to a sub (separate ground lug strip added and each neutral wire moved to its own terminal), but can also be a good time to upgrade that panel (then just wire, no conversion).

The work with the (stiff) 4/0 aluminum conductor has to be done anyway, might as well do it all at once.

As a DIY project for those so inclined, it's very satisfying when the inspector slaps on the approved sticker, and more so with complements on the quality of the work.

My father got a Generac, and I saw his breakdown; his installation was way more than the generator itself. I want to say the install was over $10,000.

Yep, I had this generator installed in May 2022, a Generac rebranded as a Honeywell. After all was said and done it was about $13,000 for generator and professional electtrcian installation in the 20170 zip code of Herndon, VA, a typical single family house with gas water heater, HVAC, and stove. Remember that natural gas service may require a new gas meter, in my case new meter was free by gas company. System does a self test every Saturday to charge battery, at a reduced running cycle to keep the noise down for my neighbors. Sounds about the same as a lawn mower during self test/charging cycle of 5 minutes. Love having this peace of mind, Covid taught me to expect the unexpected. 😀

I recently had a 26kW installed for around $13,000 with a local vendor. This included parts, install, and permits. I shopped around locally (New Orleans) and the "Costco vendor" quoted me $17,000. I hope this info gives anyone an idea of what to expect. If I had done it myself, it would have cost around $9,000.

how did you come to realize it was a rebranded generac? i've been looking to get a generac 22kw standby but this beats the price of those by $1300.

If both the natural gas line and the electric breaker box are on the same side, the installation might cost around $10K. I called them last week through Costco, and they quoted $18K for a 24kW system —definitely not worth it. I'm going to install a tri-fuel 13kW portable generator instead (under $3K)

The web site states the generator is out of stock and I believe Costco only offers these sales as stock on hand. Has anyone seen these in the warehouse in the past week?

So having spoken with a neighbor who looked into this stuff in the spring...if you go propane, it's not as great an option as one would think. The folks he spoke with estimated a 22k genny to run thru about $200/propane/day powering whole-home. Bury a 500lb tank, figure $2500+ to refill. Not so nice.
Now if you have natural gas....YES

Got mine delivered, now waiting for Costco contacted electricians to give us estimate for install. I receive the call and it was one of the most expensive electricians in our area who generally quoted 12 to 18,000 without looking at it yet. I find that very expensive just for install. I will be shopping around and considering doing some of the work myself like the concrete pad... However I haven't seen a generator this inexpensive since they've been on the market...
