$8000/90 days of direct deposit is a high bar.
- Some transfers MAY work, but doing so is a workaround that US Bank doesn't like and won't help you with.
- This site has a list of transfers that have worked for others: https://www.doctorofcre
- If $8000/90 days is hard for you with "real" direct deposits, you may want to adjust your 401(k) or tax withholding temporarily in January, and pay it back later in the year.
Fees:
- $5.00/month dormant account fee. So, you should Close the account promptly after receiving the bonus or keep using it.
- $6.95/mo monthly fee, waived if you have a $1500 balance, $1000 in direct deposit, or have a US Bank credit card. You'll be doing the $1000 in direct deposit anyway, so this should not be a problem if you time your deposits well.
- I could not find a closing fee or any other potentially onerous fees.
Funds Availability:
- Big direct deposits over $5,525.00, have a 7-day hold may apply - they won't let you transfer all of it immediately to main checking.
- They also may hold transfers over $225 under certain (somewhat unspecified) circumstances. I don't think direct deposits would be affected by this, but they could.
- Most direct deposits are available the next day, so you can move the direct deposits to your real, main checking account pretty quickly.

I looked at the list of transfers that worked, but I don't understand, can you explain please when you get a chance. I'm looking for a workaround as I will only be getting $6K in direct deposits in the first 90 days
Basically, they ask for a direct deposit, so I always give a direct deposit.
Some bank website transfers look like direct deposits, fooling US Bank and other vendors into thinking they are. In my mind, that's not playing fair on my end, and I choose not to do it.
You can click the links and try what others have tried. Might work, might not. Some other options:
- Are you married and spouse has a job? If so, you can leverage spouse's direct deposits.
- Be happy with the $350 for $6k. Honestly, I don't think any of these measures (except the spouse one) are worth $100. Too much work.
- You can contact payroll and shut off taxes for a few weeks. But, be sure to pay it back, either adding withholding later in the year or sending quarterly tax payments. This is legal.
- You can defer 401(k) contributions. However, you may lose employer matching if you have it.
- You can overpay your taxes and have your tax refund direct deposited. However, timing for that is a bit off - you'll have to file pretty early and hope the IRS/State pay promptly.
For the last two, I would recommend waiting until January to do so. But, this deal is good until December. So, start in late December, make your payroll changes, get the bonus, then fix.
Also to note, there are now "Monthly Maintenance Fee" entries of $6.95 followed by "Monthly Maintenance Fee Waived" entries of +$6.95 since I have a Cash+ card for all utilities.
Still got charged. Called US Bank, they kept saying you need to make a transaction etc. I found the paper mail, read it to them. They then claim I did not login in Sep. Then I showed them I did in Sep in my browser history. They then asked which date I actually login saying they don't have record of my login...It's a petty $5 but they are trying so hard to keep just $5.
Great if this deal works for you! But I was you, I will be very very careful if put any money in this bank. Cheer!
