This was $89 yesterday 😂😂

Clearly, I understand that thread was a steamy pile....
Yeah, sadly those who ordered are all receiving the 1TB model. I almost fell for it but saw the description/model and decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

I would be absolutely astonished if these didn't come with the latest firmware. I've not seen anything lately from Samsung NAND that wasn't updated. History be told I'd trust the 980's over the 990's and I have two 990's in my main PC system FWIW. That being said here's the link https://semiconductor.samsung.com...ort/tools/ for those that are using in a PC. For those that are installing in PS5 I'd just go for it and not worry about it if it were me.

I got this from BBuy earlier this year, used like new, upgraded the firmware right away and it has been chugging along fine with no issues. I think I paid $109

I was able to get them to reorder the 2tb and apply a $50 credit, so wasn't a total waste.

You have to connect the drive directly to an NVMe slot on your PC. Then you'll have to download Samsung Magician software to perform the firmware update. The update doesn't take long to do.

Production date on mine was October 2023 so not sure when they released the update.

no, it has to be PC based (and external enclosures don't work. it has to be plugged into the PCI-E M.2 bus to work)

Nope! Sony doesn't want to reliable if a firmware update fails and breaks your system. Each company has their own firmware update software. You can always try Geek Squad or a local PC repair shop. I'm not sure what they'd charge for that service.
