I've had this saw for about four years now, it works fine. I cannot honestly remember what I paid for it, it was in a promotion. There are two things to keep in mind buying this:

1) It isn't big enough to cut 2x6 decking, which is one of the key reasons I'm looking at trading mine in for a slider or a bigger saw.
2) There's no guide laser light, which when you're as inexperienced of a DIY-er as I am, comes in real handy on my circular saw since I can't cut a straight line to save my life.

3) keep in mind that sliding miter is usually heavy as hell
4) as soon as you get miter test if it's square or can be adjusted to be square, my ryobi is wobbling so i can never make precise 90 degree

Depends on how much you used it. Cordless is always convenient, especially if you don't use it much.

Too bad mine can't cut a straight 90 degree cut worth it's life. I've tried adjusting the vertical angle in every which way and the stop is supposed to be 90 degrees vertical but I feel like it needs to go a little past the stop. I just think the damn thing was manufactured like crap.

A miter saw is general is of great use for a DIYer…. A cordless miter saw, now that isn't much lol. I use my cordless one maybe once a year…. I use my 12" corded often!

Good for diyer. Price is decent as its cordless. I got the metabo one from a month ago off amazon for 90, but that was corded.
7 1/2 is small, but fine for 2x4's. Anything larger and you'll probably want a 10 inch.

As DIYer and someone who does not use miter much. I have the corded Ryobi miter non-sliding. I wished I kept my Kobalt corded $99 sliding miter; this was 5+ years ago. I could not find a decent sliding for that price now. My ryobi is not square either, at this price you do not expect much. I do use a circular.

I had the original version of this saw (back when Ryobi's 18volt tools were blue instead of yellow-green). This model isn't brushless, so I'm not sure there's really much difference from the one I had. Other than the batteries were nicad back then, instead of lithium-ion. I got a fair bit of use out of mine. Maybe I just got lucky, but I found it cut pretty darn close to square. At least accurate enough for me. I might have sung a different tune if I had done any crown molding.

In the end, the limited cutting capacity prompted me to get the slider version of the cordless Ryobi - a Slickdeal here for one of the refurbs sold through Direct Tool Outlet. It's just a much more capable saw being able to handle considerably wider stock. I gave the original non-slider to a friend who's also invested in the Ryobi 18volt ecosystem.

That's one thing I've always appreciated about Ryobi - they've never changed their battery pack interface. All my original blue Ryobi cordless 18 volt tools accept the much newer lithium-ion batteries. I have an original drill driver that must be at least 20 years old - I can't kill the thing. Any other tool brand and it would have long since been orphaned by a switch to a new battery format. But everything Ryobi puts out now seems to be backwards compatible with those old early models.

Best thing ever IMO for casual home use if you only have to cut wood every now and then is the Kreg Crosscut! I have so many powered tools and this thing is genius. You could pick up a brand new circular saw for $40 and the Kreg Crosscut for ~$35. I paid $12 for mine at Menards on clearance. For $75 for both tools, you could literally cut anything you want. I had to cut some 2x8" wood for instance and there's no way my 10" miter saw could do that (in 1 cut atleast w/o having to flip the wood around....when you want super precise cuts, you have to do it in 1-cut). When you aren't using the Kreg Crosscut, the circular saw can be used for other stuff as well.

I'm going to go against some of the other responses. I have a corded Bosch 10 sliding compound miter saw that I've had for years. A couple of weeks ago, I was in Home Depot returning an item and saw the 10" brushless version of this saw on clearance for $200 and couldn't resist. After using it a few times, I put my corded saw up on the shelf. Has anyone ever needed to move their miter saw someplace to make some cuts? I have, and it's way easier with the cordless. Now, if I was going to be using a saw all day, I'd probably go with my corded. But for occasional DIY use, I think the cordless would work fine. I'd just recommend the 10".

ill never buy a ryobi miter. i have one thats about 10 years old i am trying to repair from a scrap heap.

the u-shaped fence retainer behind the saw is split in half, its hollow inside and poor metallurgy (nearly impossible to fix and get a square fence). the switch handle its hollow plastic and broken. the spring on saw guard worked its way out somehow. some posters here saying the fence isnt square? thats a big nono.

ryobi is the cheapest brand for a reason. however if you are very careful with it and tae care of it, it will work and save you money. (however thats not practical for a true work saw that sees lots of abuse and moving around)

i wouldnt buy this, seems like a minor convenience for all the downsides of a limited lifespan battery, power issues. wait for a sliding saw to go on sale, got my northern tools one for about $80 shipped. got a shopmaster from HD for about $150.

I had this model and got rid of it. It cuts OK, but keep in mind it will barely cut thru a 2x4, and wont cut a full piece of flooring, or anything slightly wider than a 2x4.
