I used to jump on cheap USB drive deals like this, because as a sysadmin I have a lot of different OS bootable images I need to boot from.

But then I discovered Ventoy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventoy - free open source utility that lets you boot from multiple OS's from a single USB drive. It's really simple to use also.

Just create a bootable Ventoy-formatted USB drive. Then you simply copy any operating system ISO file to the root of the Ventoy USB drive. That's it! If you copy a Windows 10 .iso file and a Red Hat .iso file and a Server 2022 .iso file on the USB drive, when you boot from USB you will see those 3 options to choose from.

These things have horrible write speeds, not doing it again. Spend a couple bucks more for a Sandisk or Samsung and you'll be so much happier.

Amazon has a 2 pack of Sandisk 64gb for $14 http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-2-P...B08HSQP37L

Last time I bought 3 64GB drives and they sent me 3 boxes of 64GB drives. All of my friends and family were very happy with their new drives.

They are slow, but work. None have died as of yet.

Nice, got a couple of the $4 32GB micro drives. Handy for keeping OS installs around.

Can someone recommend a usb drive with fast write speeds? So tired of buying cheap and painfully slow USB drives.

I bought the C186 version from Amazon and then promptly returned them. These are on the slow side like many other brands. But I returned them because they didn't have a hole so I can attach a lanyard, which was needed since they were so smooth and slippery.

Samsung Bar Plus [amazon.com]

They are affordable ($15 for 128GB), very durable since they are made out of metal, fast, and they come from a reputable manufacturer. I have many of these laying around the office.

The only downside in my opinion is some people don't like the shape of the drive. The flared part at the end COULD cause clearance issues depending on your setup.

That's a game changer. I'll have to look into this.

I've had lots of issues booting with ventoy though. Doesn't seem to work on all computers. So you go to boot and select the iso and it does nothing. I'd say 25% of the time this happens to me.

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-256GB-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B07SYRW97F/ref=sr_1_14?crid=3IMZ153EF55A2&... [amazon.com]

This Sandisk is super fast and pretty small. Like most flash drives, it starts off super fast 150mb/sec or more but then stays around 75-100mb/sec once it heats up.
