RML 490 is the best deal at $780 right now or the SML-2 for $410. I actually just ordered the RML 490 as a parts kit to build out a ML cave, and for the parts you get on the 490 with free shipping it's an amazing price and cheaper than their regular price from even 10 years ago!

Rogue is very well built workout equipment. I prefer monster lite though. I have a SML squat rack for years now. I wouldn't go any lower than monster lite series.

This is a pretty good deal esp with the $5 shipping. Rogue is top quality gym equipment. This is BIFL level. Cheaper brands will use 2" x 2" posts but this is 3" x 3", strong enough to withstand whatever you throw at it, even for the beefiest slickdealers

FYI you have to order 5 select items to get the $5 shipping.

Not for this you don't. It is free ship by itself or would help qualify on 5 for $5 for other items that aren't free ship alone.

Monster lite owner here as well. Wish I went with the monster series. 1" holes are the gold standard. There are so many more attachments and variety from different brands using 1" pins.

The rack itself is well built and will outlive me. Almost everything rouge builds is top notch. Just wish when I started my home gym, not knowing much about the space, someone would have guided me to go with the monster series or any other rack with 1" holes. Hope this helps!

Almost seems like this is for squats.

In order to effectively (and safely) do bunch presses, would you need to:
(1) Get the 41.5 inch depth. $625.
(2) Get stringers. $95.
(3) Get spotter arms. $136 (also on sale, reg. $175)

So, now up to $856.

At that point, might be better holding out for Black Friday for something like a Monster Lite fold back full power rack for maybe a couple hundred more.

I have been benching with 21 inch depth rack for years now. 5' 11. I'd say it is more than enough headroom

Good deal, I'm holding out for the RML-390FULLW though. Seems like the safest option for lifting alone and I'm space constrained.

does the bar slide up and down while on the rack? since i only work out by myself, it would be a safety issue. i think they call those smith racks?

As someone who's starting out their garage gym and new to working out, what all do I need for a good setup, apart from a rack and a bar?

Nah this is the standard type of rack and cage.

I'm not a big fan of Smith machines. The motion it makes you go through isn't a natural range of motion and for things like squats you have to play around with where you put your feet. Plus some of the machines helps with the movement of the bar, making it easier. So just because you can squat or bench a certain amount on a Smith machine, doesn't necessarily translate to being able to lift the same amount with free weights.

So think a rack/cage like this or a freestanding one is probably better and cheaper too. Plus likely less maintenance or potential issues with broken parts.

Also just based on the thumbnail you might want to get spotter arms too. I think the appeal of this type of rack is that it can be folded away for space savings. But other than that it looks like it functions pretty much like a squat stand, maybe a bit more stable because it's attached to the wall.

Best IMO are 3/4" thick 4'x6' horse stall mats from Tractor Supply. They go on sale a few times a year. They do smell for a while so folks tend to either love them or hate them. I have about 50 of them in my basement gym and I absolutely love them. Last haul was a few weeks ago and I added 25 more. Smell is hardly noticeable to us already. I did use an ozone generator a few times since getting them though, so that might have helped a bit with the smell.

Love my sml-2 with spotter arms. I agree, monster lite minimum. This is only if you have a dual use space and cannot afford any other your gear to take up much volume.
