Lots of sugar, sure, but I don't see any indication on the package of artificial flavors.

Fact of the matter is pretty much everything has sugar in it. Don't like it, don't buy any consumer products.

Sugar is not a problem. Added sugar is, and this has a ton.

Why's it matter whether the sugar comes solely from the cranberries or is also added?

Sugar from cranberry cones with added benefits while refined sugar does not.
There's zero benefit from consuming refined sugar.

The benefit is that it makes the dried cranberries palatable. There is nothing magical about cranberry sugar, other than there not being much of it. The benefits are from the non-sugar parts of the cranberry.
It's cranberry season and you can find them fresh if you live in the right parts of the country (I live about 45 minutes from Ocean Spray headquarters). Raw cranberries are not a food most people would like.

You can get (almost) fresh cranberries from the same company (cooperative) packaged in 2/4 lbs at your local Costco/Sams/Sprouts/Lidl etc. Buy a bunch of these and freeze them and you can eat them all year. Most of this will be gone in a week or 2. You can juice them with caggabe/broccolli/sprouts and that makes a healthy vegetable juice.

Whether you eat whole cranberry or in another form, you can't separate the benefits of non sugar part of cranberry from sugar part.
The sugar is still present in the whole cranberry.
