The regular promedia goes down to $99, the promedia heritage never has.

The heritage are better. I recently upgraded from the regular promedia to the heritage. The sub is bigger and digs a little deeper, the speakers get louder. The speaker boxes are wood vs plastic.

The heritage comes with a remote to adjust the volume and the sub level, but loses the on speaker volume dial that the regular has ( which was easier for me when used as computer speakers).

Fosi bt20 + whatever slickdeals speakers are running.

These Klipsch powered sets look nice, I will give them that, but they are sonically-inadequate.

So Audioengine then? Which is a shame, because I dearly miss the Promedia 4.1 from the early 2000's...

Personally would buy a decent pair of bookshelf speakers and a small class D amp and go with that.

I picked up an old 2.1 before bluetooth version for $40. I can't imagine upgrading would make a huge impact…

Not disagreeing but you could add a smart outlet to offset this
i blew my fuse always turning it on and off one too many times with a wireless outlet about 4 years ago. easy to replace though. mine is a Pro Media THX 5.1. the OG ground pounder. these last a lifetime with easy repairs.

Are these better than the R15-PMs? I think I've had the R15s for like 5-6 years now, great speakers but I like the design of these and like that they have a matching subwoofer.
IMO: I don't think heritage is going to be better. If you already have R15s I think adding a sub would fill more and you'll have better sounds. Especially, if you can send lower frequencies to the sub only. But, if you are listing close range, like speakers on desktop I highly recommend heritage. At $180 it's a great price.

One quibble- these aren't wood bodies on the satellites, just nicer looking plastic:

For the price these are excellent. I have a set (as well as many other much nicer speaker systems) and they are more than enough for my computer setup. They sound good and get plenty loud for a small room. I wouldn't get them for a home theater setup or to fill a large room though. A 2.0 setup is not going to have the low end of even this small sub unless you get very nice speakers and any sub plus amp is likely going to cost you over $150 before you've even included the speakers. I don't think you can do much better for $180, but take a different path if you want to upgrade over time.

Just get the regular one for 99 bucks or less. This one is just a bit polished on aesthetics and sound. Not worth the extra 100 bucks.
