Because ac produces an alternating magnetic field which is easy to measure as opposed to dc which doesn't and needs a Hall effect sensor with additional circuitry and blah blah blah

That answer isn't wrong.... but there are more influential reasons, this is why. Hall effect sensors are $.25 each and that is bought through amazon 40 pak. Manufacturers will buy it in larger bulk, maybe even straight from manufacturer also and will be less than $.25 each. A better answer would be market forces allows a higher price for DC current meters and so they can charge more. Maybe market demand isn't that high and so the manufacturers that compete via small margins haven't entered the market. That's just one possible market reasons why it is more expensive than ac.

You're on this site to look for items to impulsively and recklessly buy without regard for real need. Whether you need this or not is not a matter that matters to anyone, you have to buy it. Find ways to use it after you get it.

No, it only measures Voltage(AC/DC), Current(DC), resistance, and continuity.

Presumably no inrush current detection, or does it have that?

I live the clamp feature. Useful for hanging the meter when troubleshooting.

You said it. Unless you're an engineer skip the fluke.
