Do you want a full sized ATX system or are you trying to go with a smaller case?
Is onboard WiFi required? How many M.2 storage slots do you need?
Do you have a budget?
Be sure to update the BIOS on your motherboard. The 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs had an issue causing instability and even degradation, and the BIOS updates are still happening. My Asus motherboard just got the most recent one yesterday!

1. Updated with Intel microcode 0x12B to address elevated voltage requests during idle or light activity, further mitigating Vmin Shift instability issues.
2. The option to disable C1E in the BIOS has been removed to ensure it remains enabled, reducing processor stress and maintaining stability per Intel's recommendation.
the MB is "simply" the highway between CPU GPU RAM SSD
so if you invest in a great MB, but then go cheap on those others
the "potential" of any CPU will not be "unlocked".

This is the worst silicon lottery ever. Treat these chips as disposable to avoid disappointment.
You've been warned.

It is just from what I know these chips just have a bad design. The flaw is baked into the silicon. Whatever patches they are doing with software is just to push back the inevitable expiration date.
That is not to say don't buy them. They may make sense at a particular price. But let's be real. They are a gamble.
Now we can never know for sure how widespread the oxidation issue is/was since Intel can't really be trusted.
There is also a much more rare issue with very specific batches that are mostly already out of the supply chain where oxidation may occur. Your chance of experiencing this second issue is infinitesimally small to the point that any other random run-of-the-mill manufacturing defect is more likely to occur.
Now we can never know for sure how widespread the oxidation issue is/was since Intel can't really be trusted.
The reality is that unless you purchase a used system or find some lot from the earliest released batch, the likelihood of running into an oxidization defect is nil.
As for the voltage issue, applying the microcode update has proven to resolve it.
As long as you make that a priority when assembling your system (even before installing an OS), the chance of damage is nearly impossible.
It's important to understand that these aren't "ticking time bombs" like the guy above you keeps incorrectly spouting off in every single Intel thread.
The damage was discovered through use and exacerbated by people driving their systems hard. Booting to the BIOS and applying the microcode update isn't enough to impart any damage.
Besides, this is a tray processor, so Intel has extended the warranty on them. Minor inconvenience? Maybe. Gamble? Not so much.
MC AMD 9700X bundle is $430. imo it's much better.

But as a deal seeker I am happy to take advantage of the market's reaction and get a CPU at a great value.

At this point, we should be back to getting discounts due to it becoming an older processor, rather than the bad press.

Is it the two digits after the listing of "Core i5-" ?
