There's a video on the link. I guess I'd use it for checking appliance parts. For instance, if your dryer stops heating, it could be the thermostat (a cheap part). You'd test it for continuity with the dryer unplugged. A continuity tester runs a small voltage through the circuit (the thermostat is part of the circuit) to make sure voltage flows through it. If it can't, you lost continuity - the part is broken.
I have one of these from another brand. You can use it to figure out which wires are on the same circuit when doing electrical work and it's quite handy for that. I built a garage recently and alternated outlets so adjacent outlets would not be on the same circuit. I was able to double check my poor labeling very easily with this tool. It comes in handy when the terminations you are testing are far away from one another.
Just wondering, why just not use a multimeter?

I realize this deal is a bit obscure, hope it helps someone. I'm a big fan of home improvement/tool deals.

What do you use this for? Can you use it to find the breaker for an outlet in the house?

Could I use this to run continuity tests on a long cable run, like a 50ft coax run? I don't think it's possible from the product description, but just checking.

So if you already have a multi-meter that can check for continuity, there is no need for this? Just trying to figure out how this could be used.

Save your money and buy a cheap basic multimeter which will do this and much more.

This has a remote... To check a long wire or identify a circuit.

Let's say you want to check car wiring. You're by yourself . You put one end in engine bay and the other end is under the car in the rear of the vehicle .

I'm choosing this over a multimeter

DO NOT USE this on live circuits!

With that being said, yes, with the breakers OFF, you could use this to figure out which electrical wire is running back to which breaker but there are better tools for that.

This would be handy to use if you have a J-box stuffed full of electrical wires and you need to figure out which wire is running back to the switch and which one is moving on to the next receptacle down the line. You can use on low voltage too (again, make sure there is no live current). Just use a good quality tester to make sure there are no live wires in that J-box first and down the line.

I use these on remodels when trying to figure out which wire is my traveler wire for 3 or 4-way switches.

This is handy (and better option) for determining what is on what breaker

This is roughly the same thing and what they all looked like originally (all brands)

I have this style, but it is Klein.
