The reality is this is a fantastic gaming/production cpu if you have the ability to cool it properly already! Undervolting it may also be needed depending on how hard you plan to push it! I picked one up to replace my 12700k as i am a streamer and am trying to stream kick/twitch/yt and one more off a single rig and need the extra cores! If it sucks ill just return it and keep my 12700k

i guess it's a good deal if you want to go back that far. this is 12th gen. we are up to 15th gen.
Did you happen to confuse CPUs with iphones? This chip outperforms most of the newest processors except for the very, very top ones that cost double and even triple of this chip.

No way a low profile Noctua L12S could keep this cool in a Meshlicious, right? My liquid-metal'd 6700k peaks around 75C or about 87C before the mod. Add GPU load in the case and it jumps 10C.This thing would cook, right? Considering the 7800x3d as my best option for performance/temps in ITX SFF
yeah it would be at mid 90s gaming and any real workload it will easily be at 105 plus. However with a undervolt and locking all cores to like 4.8ghz it may be feasible. At this price its kinda worth playing around with!

Sure but you better be getting the 5090, etc.

12th Gen was the last good one. 13,14, arrow lake are all considerably problematic.

Video cards are the bottleneck unless you play at 2005 resolutions.

is this CPU part of that major intel issue that was discovered earlier this year? i cant seem to find any mention of the exact CPUs that were affected.
No, but the e cores are cache starved and choke out when maxed out.

Its what they quickly fixed in the subsequent releases, which of course have their own problems.

$232 this July when Prime Day. The funny thing is 12900KS price is lower than 12900K.
It's actually genius. If they sell out of the 12900ks then the 12900k will become more valuable .

GPU isn't always the bottleneck, it depends on the game and settings. Some people play at high refresh rate 1440p or even 1080p for competitive games and the 9800X3D will definitely pull ahead of this CPU substantially in plenty of games in those scenarios (albeit for double the price). Even at 4k the 9800X3D will pull ahead in some games if using a 4090. That gap will only widen with the soon to be announced 5090.

If a card uses resizable BAR, it's incredibly CPU-dependent. I know lntel Arc and the RTX 40-series require ReBAR, not sure about the others.

To be fair, Intel 13th gen and 14th gen were little more than refreshes of 12th gen, Intel just needed to release something new with a bigger number.

more number equals bigger better though laugh out loud

Gamers Nexus went a little over-the-top poking fun at Intel for how little advancement there was from 12th gen to 13th gen to 14th gen but I enjoyed it...

"15th gen" is actually different enough to warrant a bigger number though. But they don't call them 15th gen, they're "Ultra"

This is a good price though. The 13600KF at $175 quite good as well

12th gen didn't have the corrosion issues. However, the 13th and 14th did, but that has been addressed and hasn't been an issue for months now as long as you bought a new CPU after the fix. If you didn't, and hadn't modified the BIOS settings to lower the voltage, then you're likely dealing with some issues.
