This is the configuration you want. 16gb model now for the price of the 8gb model. I wish I had gotten this instead of the MacBook Pro. The extra screen size is worth.

Apple does not have the same deal for the 15 inch options.

Would this be a better purchase for someone who runs a lot of programs at the same time (MS Excel, PowerPoint, 5 others, browser with lots of tabs) compared to a 14inch M3 MBP with same ram and memory space?

If the MBP has the base M3 then there isn't much performance benefit except having active cooling. The size, screen quality, and ports are going to be the major differences.

I would suggest taking a look at that link again (and then edit/delete your comment...).

This is a great deal, picked up a 15" M3 16/256 a few months ago for $1350. FYI you can run 2 external monitors on these with the lid closed

M3 is legit. This is a deal worthy of FP. And, if you prefer the smaller screen for whatever reason, it's also on sale.

You dont need a MacBook Pro to run productivity apps. You don't even need this much ram to run basic stuff like PowerPoint, excel and internet browser tabs. I'd still probably spring for 16gb, but if you want to save money, 8 might do you ok.

If you want to swutch from Windows, the Mac version of desktop Office 365 apps have less features than the Windows version if you are doing advanced tasks.
For day to day use this is a great choice.
