It's a great deal, but no USB-C charging. After my last dell with their F$^&%ing power connector, I vowed to never use that connector again. The center pin on the connector communicates charge speed. The way it's designed, that wire is a thousandth of an inch thick and under tension. If there's strain on the cable, that wire breaks. I know this because, between work on home, I took apart a few of those connectors trying to fix them. When that wire breaks their laptops don't just charge at a default slow speed, they throttle the CPU to the point that it's unusable. I was charging my laptop when I wasn't using it, then running from battery to use it, because battery power didn't throttle the CPU. This one specifically says "Type-C port (data only)" so I can't use that as a primary, or even a backup charge port.

Is ram soldered on?
I looked in the owners manual that is the support section of the listing on dell's site and according to it the ram is replaceable.

Keep in mind, Dell's inspiron line cuts every possible corner and uses only the absolute cheapest cost parts. They CANNOT be made cheaper.

If Ram is not soldered on its a great laptop.
The configuration in this deal has 8GB of soldered, non-upgradeable RAM.

Good luck

There are no SO-DIMM slots in the model equipped with the Ryzen 5 7520U.

As per the support [dell.com] page:
Quote :
NOTE: The option of two SoDIMM slots is not applicable to AMD Athlon Gold 7220U, AMD Ryzen3 7320U and AMD Ryzen5 7520U processors that are equipped with soldered onboard LPDDR5 memory.
(I added the emphasis above)

Good luck!

FML. As I'm rounding the end of day one waiting for the 10% coupon to arrive after giving up my email, the price jumps up to $300. Essentially they now have my email and I'm paying a slightly higher price than earlier WITHOUT the coupon. Not the op's fault. It's the old bait and switch.

Will there be better deals for < 400$ during blackfriday, this seems a good deal for a 10 year old
Your price point is generous enough to allow for a lot of deals (particularly in the $300 to $400 range). At the same time, the market looks healthier than, for example, this time in 2022 [storyboard18.com] when discounting was the order of the day. As such, don't expect the generous offers we saw around that time (with loads of comparably good systems below $300 - see an example here).

Good luck!

I feel like you're not giving HP enough credit (thinking about the Stream).

Or even Acer... or worse, the company that Acer outsources to for the Gateway-branded laptops (see here [arstechnica.com]).

But otherwise I don't dispute that these are the standard bearer for plastic, commodity laptops.

In this pice range your best bet for a solidly built laptop is likely a refurbished Dell professional model (such as a Latitude or Precision).

Good luck!
