I haven't bought a new TV for awhile. From all the posts I've read, it appeared the newer TV's only good for a few years at best. Is that really the case?

Which brand is the most reliable nowadays?

This is an edge lit display, if that matters to you. Costco member will be able to buy a direct lit Samsung 65 inch, model DU7200D for $429.99 starting Nov. 18th. That may be a better choice?

Edit:
My experience with Samsung TVs has been very good. I have 4. The newest is 2017ish and oldest is 2012ish.
My main 65 inch TV was purchased in 2015 and just developed a bright spot on the screen, so I might replace it soon.
My original 46 inch HDTV purchased in 2008 and lasted 6 years before suffering from the bad capacitors that plagued many brands of that era. Other than that, all my Sammys are still working.

Since I haven't bought one since 2017 I can't comment on current production. However, I am considering another.

For $400 I highly rec you just check out a mid end Hisense or TCL over one of the lowest end Samsung TVs....

I wouldn't say any TV brand is more reliable in any way over another, issues will always vary from Model to model but Sony & Panasonic have always been the GOATs when it comes to TVs

Thanks. I recalled the older LCD TV's would work well for 10+ years while these new ones break in a couple of years.... It's a hassle to deal with the problems every few years. :-(

Not in the low end segment. If your going to be spending less than like $500 on a TV its TCL/Hisense > Samsung. The hierarchy for the legit brands are Sony / Panasonic > LG > Samsung. Samsung makes the lowest of the lows for both the low end and high end segment, but where they're strongest is in marketing & brand recognition.

I was really impressed with Samsung TVs at other people's houses, the picture was incredibly clear and realistic. And I know it's not due to them using 4k. So my mom got one and it was a fine picture but it didn't look like theirs. This is my useless anecdote, enjoy.

This is not useless nonsense. Basically this is samsung marketing at play, its designed to look good at stores using store lighting but not at home. At stores the lights are typically extremeley bright or extremely dim samsung colors by design are intentioannly super innacurate so that they look extremely bright to overcome the store brightness the colors are also extremely over-emphasized so that they look like they pop at stores, but when you bring them home they never have good the home viewing experience because your home lighting isnt that intense or dark, and you realize at home that the color science is like a piss poor birthday cake essentially. Samsung uses this to win over market share using a fundamentally inferior product. They technically make the worst TVs but sell extremely well because they look good at stores but look terrible at home.

But I saw them in other people's homes, not at the store.
