This has been your PSA.
1. Use PayPal to get 7.5% back by logging into your PayPal account and search for promos, select StraightTalk. Will take you directly to StraightTalk site. That's what i did.
2. Chase card has 15% promo but caps at $15 discount, based on other users. I do not have Chase.
3. Purchase iPhone 13 with Silver plan. Must be Silver or higher to get $200 phone discount.
4. Do not select autopay to see PayPal payment option.
5. You can ship to different address if you're gifting it. They just need to understand the terms if they plan to unlock and use elsewhere or just stay with StraightTalk.
6. New phone needs to be activated, through StaightTalk online, for 60-day unlock countdown to begin. Phone does not need to be opened/used.
7. After the 30 plan expires, do not purchase another plan. Use it on WiFi or not at all.
8. After 60 days, phone will automatically unlock for any carrier.
9. Text "UNLOCK" to 611611 to confirm/see countdown.
10. Hope all goes well for us all.

NM: based on zip, I'm in Seattle. put in another address on east coast and it changed to $259. Even Calif is only $264 lol.
I have the 25% ST offer on Chase Ink but didn't want to take a chance since it posts as Tracfone. Also, last purchase I made on Totalwireless did not give the 5% cb for Ink as 'phone' company & I had to contact them to adjust.
I plan to bring it outside the US as a gift.
yeah, you don't have to pay to get the metro unlocked BUT you have to pay 175 dollars for flex plan plus PLUS 70 dollars a month for the 12 months. Here is the SlickDeal Link to the deal of METRO!

Something that was mentioned in my reading but obviously not confirmed was a thought that Apple could start obsoleting older phones faster because of this AI stuff. That's a second thing in the back of my mind forcing me to pass on this deal. I hope not since I'll be rocking my 13 Pro til it no longer gets security updates.
Edit - also looked up trade in value and it's only $250…my guess is that it will go down by march, so kinda doesn't seem worth the effort unless you need a phone this instant.
I plan to bring it outside the US as a gift.
Key points …
Make sure that you activate it as a "New Phone / purchased from ST". Do not activate it as "BYOD / have my own phone" or it may not get unlocked. Ideally, activate it online with their automated system to make sure that it's done right. If you call and speak to a rep, they sometimes seem to activate them as BYOD, causing them to not unlock automatically. (They can still generally be unlocked, but it may require calling them which can be a headache at times.)
Verify that once activated, the line shows active in their system and the countdown clock of "29 days remaining" starts.
Also make sure that the IMEI of your device shows as the active device on the line you just activated.
