Accessories 4 less has a new Onkyo TX-NR7100 for $599

Typically they sell refurbished units.

I suspect the reason they have new units is that this unit is on closeout

Dirac license and calibration mic included at no extra charge

Hmmm I have an Onkyo 6050 with 90 watts per channel, and was thinking this only had 100 watts per channel so not much of an upgrade to power my new KEF Q950's. That said...I RTFA and realized this came with DIRAC and the mic, which makes it much more tempting.

I'm still trying to decipher if I can run an AVR, the Fosi ZA3 to power the two front towers, whether I need another Fosi to power the klipsch 404c center, and how to even wire all that up. I wish I wasn't such a crayon eater when it came to audio equipment.

AVRs with PreOuts supports Amplifiers. These AVRs don't support Amplifiers.

Got one of these back in April at $549 from Adorama. Been a while since I've used any meaningful AV equipment, but super happy with it.

If you want to power using external amps, you're better off looking for an Onkyo RZ50 or Integra DRX5.4 (especially since the 7100 and its clones don't support Dirac Live Bass Control).

It says "new factory repack". Sounds like refurbished to me?

Can anyone comment on this vs the RZ50 simply in terms of dealing with inputs?

I don't care about pre-amp outputs and I'm not incredibly worried about all the DIRAC stuff, mostly just wanting to upgrade my 15 y/o ONKYO to something more modern and future proof with respect to eARC and HDMI 2.whatever and all that jazz.

Thanks!

the 2 models are the same in regards to both inputs and DIRAC, you're getting pre-amps and more watts with rz50

They're not the same for Dirac. RZ50 is supposed to have working DLBM/DLBC (firmware not working properly at the moment) and the 7100 doesn't get that option. Since StarmanDXE didn't care about Dirac, I didn't bring it up...

Do you think the typical buyer of this $600 AVR is looking to add a $300 DLBC option?

No, my response was to kkord who incorrectly said the RZ50 and the 7100 are the same when it comes to Dirac.

You're quick to correct me when I'm wrong so I'm surprised you didn't get the context. It's as if you didn't read all the posts...

Besides, what people do with their money is none of my business!

Ha, thanks! I am interested in the DIRAC thing, but not as concerned with it getting whatever updates.

They are indeed the same when it comes to standard out of the box with Dirac.
Thats the way I read the original statement

As for you being wrong......LOL...it clearly happens

As for adding $300 DLBC,I stand by the opinion that it really isnt a factor in a $600 AVR
