It's not bad, screen a bit dim, a tad bulky, 8gb ram would make this great. However at this price not bad at all. Check when the updates end for this model.

You're spot on with the assessment: not a great slickdeal, but certainly a good one considering the price/value.

The N200 is an ideal CPU in ChromeOS. The N200 is the latest iteration of Intel's 4-core, Atom-based CPU. However, as of the 12th generation Intel has managed to get Atom-based cores (aka E-cores or Efficiency cores) running comparably to 6th generation i-series cores (though with much greater efficiency). Although CPUs like the N200 can still struggle in Windows PCs (primarily thanks to other design limitations Intel has imposed on the N200 platform to maintain differentiation with higher-end CPUs), these lower-horsepower processors shine in devices built around less demanding operating systems such as ChromeOS.

Good luck!
Jon

I bought this because of the sale price and I forgot my work laptop in another state and can't go get it till this weekend. We operate on google workspace so I can sign in and do everything I need in a chromebook. It's basic and a little bulky but it's really responsive and I've been pretty pleased with it over the last 48 hours. The camera is lousy. I had meets all day yesterday but I stayed off camera for all of them. The speakers are good and the battery life was good too. Overall I'm happy with the price especially needing something in a pinch. The long support update time will help make this a usable product long term.

Is 4gb RAM still useful for a Chromebook? I get that this is cheap, but kind of seems like e-waste with those specs. I know that they're more efficient, etc, but the 8gb Costco deal seems much more future-proof.

Lol, I want to know what Marketing genius thought they could sell a 1366 x 768 resolution Chromebook for $399? For $129, I can see that being reasonable. I think I'll wait for year-end sales-there will be some 8 GB RAM models for around $150 I'm thinking(or hoping).

If you can get the Costco deal for $150 with that $50 discount then thats a no brainer to spend $20 more for it based on the specs of the Acer from Costco vs this one. The Acer has 8GB memory, better CPU, 512GB storage. Plus double warranty from Costco. All more than this one and worth $20 easy.

This is a good deal - a 8GB would be great. The N200 is quite capable while at low power consumption. I'd say in a sweet spot cuz more powerful mobile CPUs may not be fanless.
Possibly not an indication of the speed when used with ChromeOS, but I have a fanless windows laptop with an N200. It quickly heats up and throttles at 800mhz if you try to do much of anything that isn't web based or basic office software. I was confused because I saw reviews where the performance was good, but they were using active cooling. I assume someone using a Chromebook is going to be using web based apps so it should be fine, but wanted to share my experience that reviews of an actively cooled N200 don't carry over to a passively cooled one.

Easy. Walmart and HP product guy sit down in a crummy conference room somewhere. Walmart says "hey, I want to be able to offer a Chromebook for $129 and still make my normal profit margin, but I want the customer to think they got a great Black Friday deal."

HP product manager says "no problem, here's a $130 Chromebook and we'll just make the MSRP $399. You never have to sell it at full price, and can just sell it with a massive discount..."

Source: I used to be that Product Manager years ago selling Special Make Ups (SMU) for sporting goods stores like Dicks and The Sports Authority.

Ha, ha-thanks for the laugh. It was a rhetorical question as I've spent 8 years in Technical Marketing and 9+ in Product Management (Dell, not HP lol), but I still appreciate the response. And you're right-consumers value a $399 product on sale for $139 more than a $99 product not on sale even if it might be of equal or greater quality Smilie

Decent deal but will pass because it has no touchscreen. Once you've used one, especially if the 'ol eyes aren't what they used to be, imo you'll never be satisfied with a non-touch Chromebook. Hoping there will be some good promos during the holidays for a touchscreen CB.

If you stick mainly to the chrome browser with a few tabs. ChromeOS has evolved to support Android and Linux containers/vm to run those corresponding apps. To take advantage of those, you would want 8gb+ ram.

Have you tried making the cursor larger. Greesy Smudge on your screen is a curse I wouldn't wish on an enemy

It's in the comment section, last couple pages. If you already own a chromebook, you need to visit google chromebook perk website from you current chrombook to get the $50 coupon and redeem it on costco. It works, I already received the acer.

No greasy smudges on my 'ol workhorse Acer R11. Clean it daily, the screen still looks new. Wish I could find a similarly built, solid-as-heck replacement!
