Hi Guys, would you recommend this costco one ( Ryzen 7 8840U) or one from the Dell website (13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1355U)?Tourch screen is not important.https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...ts3530grxd
Ryzen 7 8840U is better.

Is there big difference in gaming performance (Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox) between 8840U, 8845HS, and Intel's ultra 7 155H and ultra 9 185H?

Wish this is 14". I don't know why Dell is selling the 7 series 14" with a 250 nit screen and this is a 5 series with a 300 nit 100% sRGB screen.

All specs are pretty good, except no USB 4 ports is the only down side. I'm not sure how much extra it would cost Dell but being stuck with USB 3.1 and USB 3.0 speed is quite sad when HP and Lenovo at the same price have them.

I would rank the common 2024 processors in processor speed, graphics power, and efficiency when used without a dGPU:

1. 8840U / 8845HS / 8840HS / 7840HS / 7840U
2. 155H
4. 8645HS / 8640HS / 7640HS / 8640U / 7640U / 135H / 125H
5. 125U / 135U / 155U / 165U
6. 150U / 1365U / 1355U / 1265U / 1255U
7. 120U / 1335U / 1235U / 1225U

Doesn't include the latest Ryzen AI chips but those cannot be had for less than $1000. Doesn't include the low end processors like 7520U because you should not buy 4 year old tech. Doesn't include some of the common gaming laptop chips like 13700H because those are almost exclusively used with GPUs which mess up the table.

Can you guys offer an opinion on this versus the $500 HP Victus at Walmart? Doing mostly business stuff (QB, Excel). Maybe some light photo or video work and light gaming? And portability isn't a huge factor. It'll mostly sit on my desk. Thx!
If what someone else commented about the screen being 100% sRGB, then I would say this deal is better for your use. It's lighter than the victus, has better metal construction and a more efficient processor meaning more battery life. My previous experience with Dell has been positive with some small caveats. Their construction is sturdy. I remember having a 7000 series inspiron that accidentally fell at least 2 times and even got liquid spilled over it and after drying it was still kicking. Caveat was that upon first receiving it, it had a number of weird driver issues which were corrected over time with updates. For example connecting a Logitech wireless mouse would cause the screen to freeze when connecting the mouse while a video was playing in the laptop. Other periferals caused sound cracking a bit etc. Would say any 6 months after all bugs were squashed. I did contact customer service and they offered me like a 30 or 20% discount if I kept the laptop and waited for the bugs to be fixed instead of returning so that was nice as I got it with a pretty good discount to begin with with a deal such as this one

It is fully metal build. Battery life depends on your use cases. Costco page clearly says it is 14 hours but that is probably just for video playback at lowest brightness. It has a 54 WHr battery, pretty efficient Processor and a 1080p 300-nits IPS screen; none of which are power hungry. So, with normal day-to-day work, I think you will get 7 to 9 hours.
There is another Intel i7 based Dell laptop at Costco for $599 with same exact screen. I called Dell and gave the model # for it and they said it's not IPS. Costco's website clearly says IPS for HP laptops but not these ones. You sure these Dells have IPS screen?

Screen isn't IPS? Usually WVA with Comfyview is not IPS.

Could any current owners chime in on the fan noise when it's idle or doing lightweight tasks like youtube?

EDIT: Question answered in a youtube short's comments section [youtube.com]. Fans are loud. Guess I'm passing on this one.

For the price, it's a pretty solid deal for a 8840U chipset. You can comfortably do photo editing and play games with this is config. (mostly 1080p gaming, but hey.)

For comparison, a lot of mini pcs running the same config is selling st same if not higher price point (albeit with 32GB RAM).

I got this couple months ago from Dell, upgraded memory to 64G, the 1T SSD is using the only M.2 slot, noise is low compared with my old HP Omen 15 4800H CPU. Running Ubuntu with multiple VMs. Very good for the performances/price.

HP victus uses i5-13420H whose performance score is 18500 where this Ryzen has a score of 23800. For $50 more you get a lot of juice with this deal
Also HP laptops have very high rate of hinge going bad

I might end up looking like an idiot but why the number pad? I never use these and the off center keyboard to me doesn't make sense.

If you are using the number pad, what for?
Its personal choice. In more premium line-ups, numpad tends to go away. In this price range, inspiron comes without a numpad.

If you look into Inspiron 5645 owners manual under display the only option with a 300nit touch is the one with 100% sRGB.

Which retailer offers you 20% for keeping the laptop?
