As a Wyze owner, I will say that they are doing a lot of bullshit lately.

The app changes really has a lot of issues, as you can see complaints on their forums.

Secondly, Cam Lite users were previously able to filter 'person' in the Events tab, but now they've "removed" it in an attempt to get people to pay for Cam Plus.

I had to revert to an older version of the app, install the apk, and then turn off App Updates to get this back.

Wyze are at that point were they are getting greedy and desperate to squeeze money out of their base, now that they've gotten some wider marketshare, to the point of doing some slimy tactics with pushing their subscription in subtle ways.

Exactly! The app freezes up and is horrible now. It wasn't great before but it was much more user friendly. I won't be buying another Wyze device.
We must have to wait for Wyze Cam 10, that will surely be the good one! 😁

I have about 12 Wyze cams, mostly v2 and v3's plus a vacuum and a doorbell. Either way, I'm tired of paying them subscription and dealing with a overtasked app. Slowly switching to Eufy and couldn't be happier.

Does their vac requires Vac+ subscription to run longer than 5 minutes?

To be fair, I presume once tapo gets everyone on their ecosystem, they'll do the same thing as wyze. Same corporate scheme over and over again just like Uber undercutting and taking out all the taxis and then raising rates to same as taxi
TP-Link is a hardware company, so their goal is to sell you more hardware. In general, network hardware companies are clueless when it comes to software/subscription stuff, so I think Tapos are going to be safe for another 5 years or so.

Just converted my Dad's house from Waze to Tapo C100s and he's happy with the better 2k picture and less flaky performance. His 3 Wyzecams vanished out of the app somehow.

Tapo C100s are still $50 for a 4-pack on amazon. I'm not quite ready to replace all 12 of my Wyze cams with them, but it's tempting. The only downside is they have a power adapter instead of being usb-powered. It's pretty easy to get usb power into odd locations with adapters...much harder to get an AC outlet into, say, a BR30 mount.

Thanks for your opinion... I find them to be great and find the C120 to be crap. the TP link are slow to respond, fails to connect, big and ugly, and a horrible location for the SD card and power cord. I guess we all have our opinions.
I've had the same experience as you with a cheapo Tapo C100 I bought I believe on clearance. Tapo is superior compared to Wyze in just this aspect alone!

I hate Wyze's latest app update. There used to be a button to turn the camera on and off easily. Now you have to navigate to do it and the new app update freezes quite a bit.
The power buttons came back on the main screen of the new app redesign a while ago. They were only missing from from the initial update.

I'll grab two from costco. I have wyze cams most of the places I go frequently and it's been fine for me. I have SD cards in every camera so I don't pay for any subscription stuff. At my home, I have a variety of cameras, including POE, but the wyze cameras have the best image.

Better to pony up for the C120 at 2 for 29.99. Solves the usb problem and they're outdoor rated too.

I do have one gripe with all of these cameras and it's that the audio quality is still pretty awful, but I have little use for it, so nbd in my case.

Do you all think companies can continue giving things aways for free? Their equipment is great for the price and unless we want them to cease to exist and go under, they need to have a way to pay their employees, pay rent, electricity and so on. It'd be nice if everything was free but then we wouldn't have jobs and neither would the people at Wyze.

On point. I work in retail, and see so many dumb things people feel entitled to get for free lol

I was a Wyze power user back in the day (4 cameras, light bulb, wyze lock). I tried dealing with them taking away person detection and eventually going to a subscription model. I tried dealing with an app that would record 75% of my events and would crash all the time. I tried dealing with rebooting my cameras atleast once week.

I finally gave up and purchased 4 TP's and threw in a SD card and WOW.... no dropped events. No rebooting... NO FEES. the app is much cleaner to use than wyze. I can't believe I waited so long to make the change.

What is up with this bootlicking mentality?

There is nothing about person/vehicle/any sort of detection that requires cloud services. WYZE is intentionally gating local functionality to get people to pay for a subscription. If other companies have found a way to be profitable while selling equipment that does it without a subscription (and way better, IMO), WYZE deserves to go BK and disappear.

It's free with the executive membership... I haven't paid for my membership in over a decade now... Cash back covers the cost of the membership
That's not how that works. It's not free. You getting cash back doesn't make something free, especially when you have to spend money to get any money back.

Then why TF are you in a Wyze post? I bet you work for a competitor, that is why you're in here talking smack!

Where is the C120 selling at 2 for $30?

Interesting, what is TP? Can you elaborate please?
