Yes they do that every year around Black Friday and Christmas. If apple care is important to you then Costco deal is your best bet. If cheapest price is more important than look into Deals like this plus check your credit card offers as I often see 10% cashback deals from Staples. Also Amazon: if you have Amex/Chase/Discover and are eligible for their pay with points promotions for 10%-40% off when using points (YMMV) that's usually the cheapest way to get airpods

Got one yesterday from a store in Chicago. I called and confirmed availability and pricing before I went to the store. It was a quick and pleasant purchasing experience. I also used the $20 off $50 coupon and it shows up as redeemed in my Staples app.

Just got one today in Tampa / Clearwater Florida area. It said it was not available until the 20th online but I showed up at my local store and they had it. I downloaded the app and created an account and got to use the future $20 credit for $50 or more purchase.
