Does this machine make hot coffee or is it lukewarm and they tell you to prewarm the cup and all that nonsense ?

Why this got downvoted?? The man is just telling the truth. SD is getting ridiculous.
No matter how accurate or earnest and well-meaning posts are, there are always a few people that downvote just to get a rise.

Bought this a year ago and used 1-2 times each day on dark roast. No malfunction so far. The brewing group is under $100 so no need to sweat over it.
Quality of esspresso is good enough for me but I've had other people visiting complaining that the crema is too thin.

I bought this back in September from Costco, and I am very happy with it. Full disclosure that I have not tried other machines. It's my first superautomatic. I learned a lot from reddit and other comments in previous posts. There was a break-in (dial-in) period at the beginning. We used Lavazza beans during this period. Soon, I was off to never buying another latte at a coffee shop. We still enjoy the atmosphere and baked goods, but bring our own coffee. The machine and some practice make a good latte.

Our top 3 favorite beans with this machine are:
Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso (regular and sublunar)
Stumptown's Hair Bender
Equator's Tigerwalk Espresso

All of these beans are not oily, as it was suggested that you stay away from oily beans with this machine. Philips has great videos on maintenance. It was suggested somewhere to use the steam wand without the metal piece (silicone tip only), and it makes better foam, which we found to be true. It does make the machine a bit louder, though, when steaming milk.
Black Cat Espresso beans aren't oily?!?

I will add my current settings if it helps anyone:

Grind Size: 2 of 12 (Finer) - must adjust while the machine is grinding. Counterclockwise for finer.
Aroma: 3 (Max)
Cup Size: 1 (Min)
Temp: Max - which you can adjust by reading manual.
Water 3 (Max) - We have hard water. Philips provides you with a litmus paper to test your water. We use the filter you purchase separately for ~$15 each on Amazon.

Lastly, our ratio is 3.5-4oz of milk per shot. Obviously, this will be to your preference.
The higher the aroma the more coffee beans used?

This is a tempting price, but I use oily beans because I like dark roast. I would love one touch coffee, but I don't need the headache of the chute clogging. I use a Baratza Sette and it handles oily beans, no problem.

If you don't have a local roaster or just want to save money, buy green beans and be your own roaster. Green beans from places like Happy Mug are very competitive pricewise, and you can get amazing variety/quality cheap.

https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Non-Stick-Chestnuts-Household-Roasting/dp/B08GQ7NX4F?crid=UH9MNQXM12... [amazon.com]

I can do a pound of beans at a time in 40 minutes, and it works very well for me. The air roasters are just too small, and the fancy roasters cost $400 or more. These generic looking stir-crazy machines work well. .
I was surprised to see "non-stick" in the description, but some reviews also mentioned that the roaster pan surface is coated in teflon. This is not a good thing. 240C (465F) is close to the 500F temperature where teflon starts breaking down into toxic fumes that you'll likely be breathing, beause you have to watch the beans as they roast. I don't even see the point of covering the surface with teflon, it is not like coffee beans would stick to stainless steel surface.

I haven't noticed any odd smells since I've done many roasts, but you have a point. Maybe the bad stuff already burned off, who knows? I might try the final roast at a lower temp and see what I get. The smoke itself probably isn't healthy to breathe, non-stick or not. There's probably an unhealthy chemical reaction in dark roasted coffee. Perhaps Starbucks coffee is behind increased cancer rates in this country /sarc. I do roast in my garage and air it out before the final step, so I'm actually only in there watching the last couple of minutes and not really exposed to much smoke.

What beans do you buy at this price?

I think it's because "dark" doesn't equate to "oily", And instead of just saying that, some people find it easier to lash out in anger even though it would have been faster to answer your question.
I use almost exclusively dark roast in my machine, for 5 years now. And when you come across a bag of beans that are very oily, you'll know.

Is this a logical next step from a Nespresso original line?

Since you were curious, here is a picture to compare to a more oily bean.

Edit: I took these, no filter.

Do you have a source for this statement? There are those who wait ten days for the roasted beans to finish out-gassing. A 10-14 day window is awfully narrow.
