the question is does this work with tmobile even if locked
It's not supposed to, but it does. T-Mobile locked phones work with MVNOs, but it's not supposed to work the other way with MVNO locked phones working on T-Mobile. YMMV
I purchased this phone in June. In the settings it shows as locked and says it needs to be on the network for 180 days, despite the Metro unlock policy having changed to 1 year. At the end of next month I will be able to check if the phone unlocks after 180 days.

This is $65 with Total (by Verizon) and that one unlocks in 60 days post activation. The issue is Total will need mandatory number port in and verification via 3rd party.
Alternatively, it's also available with Straight Talk for $130 for 3 months of service paid and also unlocks in 60 days post activation. No 3rd party verification needed.
This metro deal is not worth IMHO because of uncertainty with unlock (nobody knows with surety if it unlocks after 1 year of activation or after being on active plan with metro for 1 year. It has not been a year since Metro changed it's unlock policy in May 2024). That aside, it's not a great value to keep a mid-range device unusable as a phone for 1 year and wait for unlock. Others may differ in opinion and I respect that.
Total requires id verification that includes selfie. Absolutely ridiculous

Can I put another tracfone family sim into this and use it while waiting one year to unlock?
You should definitely go with the Total deal in this case. $10 cheaper, only 60 days to unlock, and in your case, the TracFone sim will work in it while still locked. I just tried this yesterday myself. Stuck a family members tracfone sim in my new locked Total edge 2024 just to see if it would work and it did. This is assuming of course your TracFone sim is on the Verizon network which it should if it's not years old.
I am quite interested in the smart connect feature. Here is a comparison chart with what it can do. I read in a reddit that the usb didn't work for monitor and just worked with pc but this chart says otherwise. https://en-emea.support.motorola....lity-chartFWIW. The Motorola g stylus 2024 has smart connect capability too but just wireless (miracast) and pc. I didn't know that got it as well.Smart connect where connecting multiple devices all together at once. Pretty interesting. Smart connect does more than screen mirroring.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=01NHZXuJYrQhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p6X...VjdA%3D%3D
Thanks great info. I just wish this edge had a stylus. I have the g stylus 2024. I might just stay with the stylus and hope the 2025 version has wired connection also....
His point is that no one knows for sure with empirical evidence with the new 1 year policy. Chances are that only the timeframe changes, but it is still a bit of a gamble. Yes realizing that Metro's "since activation date" wording is still there so again likely only the timeframe changes.
I went with the Metro S24 FE though. 1 year later it'll still be an upper midranger for $200 + $75 plan. Right now for reference, the S23 FE is >$500 retail. Samsung / Best Buy also sometimes give good TIVs for these.
seems pretty steep for that, i believe i paid <200 for my unlocked one plus 12R 8GB, and something near 300 for my 16GB ram version. unlocked out of the box. and one plus carrier support has gotten a lot better, these seem officially supported by most carriers now.
granted these were slickdeals with launch and included a (nominal) trade in iirc, altho one plus also has that fake trade in were you dont actually trade in, and i dont remember which is which.
samsung does have more cache to casuals though and i do like the fe's flat screen. plus as with most things these days, prices are probably increasing over time not decreasing.

Your links are so helpful I appreciate it!
I have the motorola g stylus 2020 and 2022 5G and I have been happy with them. The 2022 isn't my daily driver now but I still use it a lot as a mini tablet as it runs great. I think I will wait for the 2025 motorola line as a 3 year wait between motorola phones will feel like a more significant upgrade. I don't know which one I prefer more between the edge and stylus. Both have their pros and cons between each other.

Yes these are deal prices. Retail for OP 12R is about $500. Today if you can get an unlocked S23 FE with no other conditions for $275, it's still SD worthy. S24 FE at $450 was an SD earlier, this month or last month I forgot. Therefore if you project out a year, 275 for an unlocked no conditions S24 FE would be a deal price, so not steep at all. You can make the case that Samsung buyers overpay but iPhone users overpay to an even greater degree

Could you please report back about the unlock. I don't want to buy a phone that I can just use after one year and then have only 1.5 years of updates left.
In that case I wait for good offers with Samsung. For 5+ years of updates, it's more worth waiting.

It works in both cases: wireless or wired
Enough with this three-ring circus of customers exploitation.

Can't I do the same thing and just use the tracfone sim in it for a year? will it still unlock if I do that?
