Could you please report back about the unlock. I don't want to buy a phone that I can just use after one year and then have only 1.5 years of updates left.
In that case I wait for good offers with Samsung. For 5+ years of updates, it's more worth waiting.

Will do

I ordered this phone and received and activated it with Metro last night. It works with my T-Mobile postpaid sim card just fine. Metro account is on eSim, so there're two sims in the phone at the moment and I can use either to make or receive calls, text, or data.
So, if you have a T-Mobile postpaid plan you don't even need to wait for the unlock.

It's not supposed to, but it does. T-Mobile locked phones work with MVNOs, but it's not supposed to work the other way with MVNO locked phones working on T-Mobile. YMMVI purchased this phone in June. In the settings it shows as locked and says it needs to be on the network for 180 days, despite the Metro unlock policy having changed to 1 year. At the end of next month I will be able to check if the phone unlocks after 180 days.
I got mine today and see 180 days, hope that is true. Let's see what you find out next month.

Does this mean I can use this phone right away on Mint Mobile?
If yes, what would I need to do to make it work?

By the carrier rules, it shouldn't work. Mint Mobile is a MVNO. Metro is a MVNO. Locked MVNO phones are not supposed to work with any other carriers. I tried a Cricket SIM and it did not work.

T-Mobile could be the only other carrier it works with or it may also work with T-Mobile MVNO networks. Cricket is not a T-Mobile MVNO. Mint is. Only way to confirm would be by inserting a Mint SIM card.

Nothing needed to make it work. Even though it shows as network locked in the settings, inserting a T-Mobile SIM works.

1 year to unlock.
And this is the single biggest reason to pass.

I also hate curved-screen phones because they're complete gimmicks that make the screen more prone to damage from falls/drops that would normally protect a flat-screen phone.

This is $65 with Total (by Verizon) and that one unlocks in 60 days post activation. The issue is Total will need mandatory number port in and verification via 3rd party.

Alternatively, it's also available with Straight Talk for $130 for 3 months of service paid and also unlocks in 60 days post activation. No 3rd party verification needed.

This metro deal is not worth IMHO because of uncertainty with unlock (nobody knows with surety if it unlocks after 1 year of activation or after being on active plan with metro for 1 year. It has not been a year since Metro changed it's unlock policy in May 2024). That aside, it's not a great value to keep a mid-range device unusable as a phone for 1 year and wait for unlock. Others may differ in opinion and I respect that.
What is 3rd party verification?

It's an online/remote id verification via 3rd party 'Veriff' which will require you to upload pics of your DL or passport etc and also upload a selfie along with it.

Based off what evidence it makes you feel it's 180 days? Unlock screen terms? That could be the verbiage error where MetroPCS has already updated the unlock eligiblity rule without update policy terms on the app

It would be interesting to know that because Metro has unlocked most of the phones in 6 months (if you follow the steps and don't try to be extra smart). Now they're telling 12 months but still feel it's the best deal for private use or give away as a gift (flipping side is not very attractive anymore).

I've unlocked a handful of MetroPCS phones including the one im typing now. ..6 months unlock definitely no question asked. However MetroPCS updated rule around mid year of 2024,till this point technically speaking post rule update none of the costumer has meet 6 month threshold yet... When you said most of phone unlocked in 6 months you must be referring to BEFORE the change.

What does "verification via 3rd party" mean?

yeah but again they have changed the time frame not the language saying you need to be on their network for 12 months to unlock...

still feel comfortable spending $75 and wait one year...if they don't unlock sell for $100 and get out of metro stuff forever (doubt they won't unlock after year)
