This is $65 with Total (by Verizon) and that one unlocks in 60 days post activation. The issue is Total will need mandatory number port in and verification via 3rd party.
Alternatively, it's also available with Straight Talk for $130 for 3 months of service paid and also unlocks in 60 days post activation. No 3rd party verification needed.
This metro deal is not worth IMHO because of uncertainty with unlock (nobody knows with surety if it unlocks after 1 year of activation or after being on active plan with metro for 1 year. It has not been a year since Metro changed it's unlock policy in May 2024). That aside, it's not a great value to keep a mid-range device unusable as a phone for 1 year and wait for unlock. Others may differ in opinion and I respect that.
You do not have to port in a number with Total deal, there has trick and discussion on Total forum.
yeah but again they have changed the time frame not the language saying you need to be on their network for 12 months to unlock...
still feel comfortable spending $75 and wait one year...if they don't unlock sell for $100 and get out of metro stuff forever (doubt they won't unlock after year)
Yup, it's only $75. I have found mine useful as a tmobile device in the meantime. But need it on my non tmo line.
Average out with two phones. One year unlock is too long.
Got two iPhone 12 for trade in purposes for $110 from Metro. Good they don't charge taxes on free phone. Total charged me around $18–19 each for the Edge.
I ported the two lines from Metro to Total. Waiting to unlock the two Edge in about a month. -$135 for two Edge on Total with one month service.

They have said a phone is unlocked but it wasn't. Multiple calls to metro have not unlocked the phone.
It's an online/remote id verification via 3rd party 'Veriff' which will require you to upload pics of your DL or passport etc and also upload a selfie along with it.
Cool. Thanks. Have to remember that name "Veriff".

It is Google voice number as port-in but any tricks to bypass verification process? I am reading that thread but kind of hard to connect the dots (if you know pl share)

I never had any problems for old 6 months deal. Have you activated the phone and which model?
All my metro phones in the past have unlocked after 6 months. They always unlocked as they said. The same goes for total wireless and straighttalk phones unlocking policies being fulfilled as promised. Their unlocking policy is pretty much clearly stated.
I have to believe that they will stop selling these deal phones to people who buy so many. If a deal is abused, maybe they will put a block on a credit card and address? Some companies are doing id verification so I don't want to overdo it. I don't want to be blacklisted. I definitely don't need a new phone every 6 months or 1 year. I don't want to go to the well too often. Press my luck.

I'm new to phone deals like this, can someone please explain how it works? Which Metro plan should I choose? Do I activate Metro and then cancel in X days? Virtual CC recommended? Any gotchas to be aware of?
hows the phone ? camera, speed etc. I'm currently on g stylus and lost faith in moto.
It's a midrange phone with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. I came from a Pixel 5a and the Edge is way snappier and apps don't get killed frequently due to the additional RAM. The camera is 7/10. There was a recent update that added a Auto Enhance (longer capture time) option to the camera app that improved photos.
For $75 I don't think there's a better phone out there.

A little hesitant given the absolute garbage performance of the Moto G Play at similar price points, how does this one compare?
I ended up ditching my G Play for the Samsung A15, would this be more comparable to that...?

I am familiar with metro process (not perfect as well) but no id verification and they ship the phone ASAP (365 waiting is fine with me).
