Ahhh thank you, im not into macs its for the wife 🤦🏻 ♂️ was confused by the macbook it self being "pro" instead of the m4 pro chipset making it pro haha

I have 16" M3 Max (64GB). I won't be upgrading for years.

Edit: yes of course employer paid $4k for it.

I use Ableton Live for music production, I was thinking of going with the M4 max but do y'all think the MacBook Pro with M4 Pro chip would be enough?

I sincerely doubt you need the Max, and maybe not even the Pro (depends on how taxing of projects you're working on). The Pro has gained a lot of performance over last year's; if you'll be working with lots of tracks and samplers that need plenty of memory, go with the Pro.

i find it funny they are selling a MacBook pro with a regular m4 chip and make you pay extra for the m4 pro chip even though its a MacBook pro

Man I am in the exact same boat! I'm leaning towards the Pro on account of the better display. While the M4 is apparently a decent step up from M3, I doubt it would have too big an impact on my day-to-day. But still, the overall package of the Pro (multiple displays, TB5 etc.) is more appealing.

Zero knowledge of whether there will be any deals but if last year was anything to go by, there were tons of great previous gen (so M2 Pro) machines on significant discounts esp. with Apple certified refurbished. My use case is somewhat similar to yours with the exception of some coding projects here and there, and I think the M3 Pro would more than suffice and last 5-6 years that I typically daily drive my devices.

I went to my local Costco today and even though it said not available in store they had them. You can also call to double check.

Recently the Costco app has added an update. If you click on the warehouse at the bottom, you can search the inventory of that warehouse.

This way, you don't have to call them. It will show you the availability and the price, and in some cases, it even tells you the nearby location that might have it in stock (in case your selected warehouse does not have it in stock).
