For single core performance, it's not worth it, so if you don't need that performance, maybe consider if the other add ons are things you desire. I went the Pro route because the price difference really wasn't substantial. Also, the Pro variant has two fans instead of one.

To save the most money on ANY macbook, buy at B&H. Use theie Payboo credit card and choose "save the tax" option. I have en EDU discount at apple, and I regularly check sales on amazon. B&H STILL saves the most money for me with the tax saving option.

Unless you have Total from Best Buy (I know you pay for it) but it includes Applecare for 2 years. If you get them to price match (like I did) you do pay tax, but having Applecare makes it worth it to me. I also understand B&H returns still get charged a restock fee too.
