I have the 5050ub and can't recommend it enough if you're in a room with a bit of ambient light. The thing is a light cannon. At night it's fantastic, and when you don't have perfect conditions it's still completely watchable.

I've read it sucks with HDR content though. What do you think?

I don't have other projectors to compare it to but I think it looks great...the picture isn't as sharp as my LG C1 but the colors are great and black levels are as well.

I think there a device that folks on AVSforums were using to add dynamic HDR to these projectors, like the JVCs have.

Student discounts are only 5%, at least that's what it's showing for me.

Looks like i can get 5% student ($115) and $50 back from Amex so $2134 before tax. Tempting.

Though Amazon can do 6% in points... Almost still make sense to do Amazon for the returns.

Though though Dell will do another $131 in rewards points. Ugh.

Apparently it doesn't work on projectors.

Awesome deal, but would it be a better idea to hold out for the 11000? They should be going on sale soon also. Just a thought.

This is a good lamp based projector if this is the max you can spend and want new. It's yesterdays technology; with any heavy watching, it'll get dimmer and you'll have to buy new bulbs

Better off buying a used JVC or Sony unit from AVS marketplace. Home theater guys are upgrading their equipment all the time. You can score very good deals there.

Also, I'd sooner buy a refurb unit direct from Epson. You'll save a bunch and it's warrantied.

Can this be connected to a wireless soundbar system like the Samsung Q990c? If so, how?

It does not support earc. You will need an entry point receiver or 4k splitter. Monoprice makes one - blackbird.
