A few things about the projector, pros and cons:
Pros:
-Great picture. Zero stutters, frame skipping, etc. Any video you give it is silky smooth. Better than any modern tv I've seen, on par with a Samsung plasma I had years ago
-Great upscaling ability (HD to 4K looks fantastic).
-Really good black levels for a projector. I've even read that it's better than the newer Epson laser versions, but have not seen them side by side.
-Excellent out of the box calibration. I had to make very few tweaks.
-It's made by Epson. The build quality is amazing.
-Only affordable way to get a big picture over 100".
Cons:
-I bought this four years ago, before 100" 4k tvs were going for the same amount. Those tvs will have better black levels, brightness, hdr, etc.
-About those black levels. You need a completely darkened room (walls, ceiling, windows) to get them. Any bit of light will kill it. I have dark blue walls, but the wife won't let me paint the ceiling anything but white. So I get light reflecting from the screen to the ceiling and back onto the screen. I have a grey screen to improve black levels and contrast, and it helps. But it's not tv level. Although I've even noticed that movie theater projectors aren't 100% black and are on par with mine, so that makes me feel a little better.
-It is a light cannon, but I have a Hisense H9G for daytime viewing, and a hidden 106" projector screen that drops down over the tv for nighttime.
-It takes a few seconds to lock onto content. So get used to not seeing the first few seconds of anything you want to watch.
-No hdmi 2.1, no vrr and limited to 4k 60hz. I game in 4k with my ps5 and rtx 3080 gaming pc, and it's fine for me. But does not take advantage of the latest tech if that's important to you.
-It's huge hanging from the ceiling. And it makes fan noise that tvs don't.
-Lamp life. My lamp started to dim after 2100 hours. I installed a new one earlier this year and it looks great again. But that is a few hundred bucks I had to shell out.
Hope that helps folks new to the projector game, or thinking about upgrading.

Yeah. You can find deals. I found one on sale at B&H that happened to be a good bit off standard price.

That one is designed to be used in a bright room with that high lumen. That usually comes with the cost of black level and color accuracy, which is usually what you really want if you have a properly setup room.
For me, black and color are top priorities, then it would be nice to be bright so I can still watch movie when someone opens a fridge or something
Edit : the Kickstarter campaign is over so likely not as competitive anymore.
Same here, I ended up pledging for the Plus 2. Thanks for the heads up.

Short version I went from the 5020 to 5050 and am hard pressed to tell the difference. Always thought 5020 was amazing. Could you elaborate on specifics that you found better. FWIW I'm on a 135" high gain screen and a 14' throw distance / 11' seating distance
