I used two 66ft lights last year for a 7 ft tree. It was barely enough. You can probably get by with two but three would probably be ideal.

I have both, and nothing compares to Twinkly. Twinkle has a patented light technology that allows you to map your lights using your smartphone's camera: https://twinkly.com/pages/technology

However, some Govee products can be hacked to use WLED instead, which has an official Integration for Home Assistant. Twinkly has an official Integration for Home Assistant as well, but are locked down to using the Twinkly controller.

Source: I own multiple products from both companies.

How many do you need to properly light an 8' tree?

Is this one of the Govee's that can be hacked into a WLED setup?

Bought it.. canceled once I saw the 99 foot second generation for 79$ looks like it's worth the upgrade

Yep, thanks for the heads up, I prefer a tree covered in lights so we spent the extra $20 for 99' Govee Christmas Lights 2 (link here) : https://www.amazon.com/Govee-Chri...9hdGY&th=1
