Synthetic fabrics are more durable than wool. Synthetic fabric is often mixed with wool fabric for longevity reasons (as well as cost savings). Keep in mind wool pills as it age. I'm not saying blend is the way to go, but there is a reason for blending fabrics. It's the same reason it's tough to find 100% wool socks - it's almost always blended for durability.

I'm guessing the eggplant is a discontinued color. Smartwool is selling this jacket in other colors [smartwool.com] for $220.
I like my Smartwool long underwear and have used it down to 10*F in Yosemite with no complaints.

"smartwool" basically means company is saving money using cheap synthetic fabric and mixing it with 53% wool... lol
so technically this price is basically retail, if not still overpriced for what it is, yikes
